Requests that the bearer of the letter, Joseph Dyer, and two other men (John Lenen and James Kendall) be given enough provisions to return home on furlough. Explains that the men are from Boston and that Dyer is a man distinguished with honor and merrits some little notice. The verso includes an autograph endorsement signed by General Knox which grants each man ten days provisions for their trip back to Boston. Also included on the verso is a receipt of rations signed by John Dyer.
