"Dr. Saarnivaara's . . . book . . . is a valuable help . . . to remove obstacles set up by unbelieving criticism and to help Christian people to a joyful certainty that 'Still, the Bible is right,' not only according to its own words but also when it is studied in the light of historical and other scientific facts." --Aapeli Saarisalo, University of Helsinki

Most evangelical Christians believe that those people who are not saved before they die will be punished in hell forever. But is this what the Bible truly teaches? Do Christians need to rethink their understanding of hell? In the late twentieth century, a growing number of evangelical theologians, biblical scholars, and philosophers began to reject the traditional doctrine of eternal conscious torment in hell in favor of a minority theological perspective called conditional immortality. This view contends that the unsaved are resurrected to face divine judgment, just as Christians have always believed, but due to the fact that immortality is only given to those who are in Christ, the unsaved do not exist forever in hell. Instead, they face the punishment of the "second death"--an end to their conscious existence. This volume brings together excerpts from a variety of well-respected evangelical thinkers, including John Stott, John Wenham, and E. Earl Ellis, as they articulate the biblical, theological, and philosophical arguments for conditionalism. These readings will give thoughtful Christians strong evidence that there are indeed compelling reasons for rethinking hell.

The final book of the Bible, Revelation prophesies the ultimate judgement of mankind in a series of allegorical visions, grisly images and numerological predictions. According to these, empires will fall, the "Beast" will be destroyed and Christ will rule a new Jerusalem. With an introduction by Will Self.

We all struggle every day with situations we cannot resolve, so we get frustrated and angry and hurt those we love. We were created for a specific purpose and design. The image of God is not a trivial thing but is the greatest design imaginable. It is when we live in that design and we discover the difference between our purpose, our desires, and what is required of us, that we find life to be exciting and full of joy. My desire is for this book to help those who are struggling with or have significant unresolvable issues. The Manufacturer has given us an Owner's Manual to help us fix the broken things and to understand how to help fix broken people. It is also a compass, a rule book, a history book, and the most entertaining novel of true-life stories. I pray you will find answers and enjoyment in this book and research the Scriptures for life's solutions. I recommend the Message Bible for reading and New King James for studying.

"A masterpiece of contemporary Bible translation and commentary."—Los Angeles Times Book Review, Best Books of 1999 Acclaimed for its masterful new translation and insightful commentary, The David Story is a fresh, vivid rendition of one of the great works in Western literature. Robert Alter's brilliant translation gives us David, the beautiful, musical hero who slays Goliath and, through his struggles with Saul, advances to the kingship of Israel. But this David is also fully human: an ambitious, calculating man who navigates his life's course with a flawed moral vision. The consequences for him, his family, and his nation are tragic and bloody. Historical personage and full-blooded imagining, David is the creation of a literary artist comparable to the Shakespeare of the history plays.
