Studying such literary figures as Frederick Buechner, Albert Camus, George Dennison, Ursula Le Guin, C. S. Lewis, Alan Paton, Ignazio Silone, Alice Walker, Elie Wiesel, and Charles Williams, Robert McAfee Brown illustrates "the liberating power of fiction" by enabling the reader to enter their worlds. Brown asserts that although there is no faith that offers ironclad guarantees against future struggles, the wisdom of these authors can help us toward praising and rejoicing.

Persuasive Games in Political and Professional Dialogue is about the rediscovery of humans as proficient users of language in the sense that – while involved in a dialogue – they listen, observe, discuss, reason, evaluate and conclude; in other words, speakers are no longer interested in defeating the other and proving him/her wrong, but in learning from the other. The volume comprises 12 articles, distributed in two sections – Persuasion in Political Dialogue and Persuasive Strategies in Professional Dialogue – which approach the topic of persuasion as it unfolds from political and professional communication. The articles in the proposed volume depict relevant theoretical and practical issues related to persuasion in two communication sites: politics and workplace, and they are results of consistent research conducted by the contributors in various settings. The contributions provide critical, valuable insights into the dynamic process of creating and maintaining relationships at an individual and at a professional level.

Readers of Persistent Pursuit will pick up the story of Brad and Stella Crosley after they settled into their north central Iowa wooded hideaway they call Haven Acres. Their tranquility is disrupted by the nocturnal arrival of an uninvited guest. Will their marriage survive the threat of a triangular relationship as they tackle the multiple issues of another inhabitant of Haven Acres? Will their newfound faith in Christ withstand the challenges they will face? Will Stella, who previously abandoned her husband and infant son, assume the role of faithful wife and devoted mother? Find out if the Crosleys manage to achieve persuasive proof. I was delighted to find that Haven Acres was still very much alive in Persuasive Proof, the sequel to Dave Barkeys first novel Persistent Pursuit. The familiar and memorable personalities continue their adventures. Brad Crosley, principal of the local elementary school, and his wife Stella are in the process of making a comfortable Christian home for their son Gerald. The author beautifully and sensitively draws the reader into Brads struggles to balance his responsibilities among nurturing his family, running the elementary school, participating in church activities, and cultivating relationships in the community. The story intensifies as Brad and Stella reach out to a desperate Sally, offering shelter and hope. This new-found hope is threatened by unforeseen challenges only to realize later that God had a better plan. Thank you, Dave Barkey, for another inspiring book and Im already anticipating the next. After solving three murders and ridding Pemberley of riffraff and questionable relatives, Eliza Darcy is convinced her problems are in the past. Secure in the love of her main squeeze, Heath Tilney, and somewhat confident in her new role as mistress of Pemberley, Eliza ignores the news of an ex-con murdered in one of Lambton’s many pubs. Then Detective Chief Inspector Finn Wentworth shows up on her doorstep, soaking wet and accused of murder. Certain Wentworth is innocent, Eliza hides him, using one of Pemberley's secrets. She reassembles her sleuthing gang: Heath, her batty great-aunt Iris, and her romance-novelist cousin Joy Bingley. The group must work to keep Wentworth’s whereabouts a secret while they solve the murder to clear his name. Just as they make some headway, an unwelcome surprise infiltrates their mission. Eliza fears she will not only fail her friend but also end up decorating a prison cell instead of bringing her beloved Pemberley back to its Regency Era glory.
