As part of the larger, ongoing movement throughout Latin America to reclaim non-Hispanic cultural heritages and identities, indigenous writers in Mexico are reappropriating the written word in their ancestral tongues and in Spanish. As a result, the long-marginalized, innermost feelings, needs, and worldviews of Mexico's ten to twenty million indigenous peoples are now being widely revealed to the Western societies with which these peoples coexist. To contribute to this process and serve as a bridge of intercultural communication and understanding, this groundbreaking, three-volume anthology gathers works by the leading generation of writers in thirteen Mexican indigenous languages: Nahuatl, Maya, Tzotzil, Tzeltal, Tojolabal, Tabasco Chontal, Purepecha, Sierra Zapoteco, Isthmus Zapoteco, Mazateco, Ñahñu, Totonaco, and Huichol. Volume 1 contains narratives and essays by Mexican indigenous writers. Their texts appear first in their native language, followed by English and Spanish translations. Frischmann and Montemayor have abundantly annotated the English, Spanish, and indigenous-language texts and added glossaries and essays that trace the development of indigenous texts, literacy, and writing. These supporting materials make the anthology especially accessible and interesting for nonspecialist readers seeking a greater understanding of Mexico's indigenous peoples. The other volumes of this work will be Volume 2: Poetry/Poesía and Volume 3: Theater/Teatro.

'The healing has begun. It began when you picked up this book. The goal of these offerings is to assist the children of the earth in the redevelopment of their minds, bodies and spirits . . . Buried deep in the earth are precious diamonds. In order to get to them, however, we must dig and dig deep.' In ACTS OF FAITH, life coach Iyanla Vanzant offers a inspirational passage for each day of the year, particularly aimed at people of colour. Vanzant considers that there are four basic areas that create stress and imbalance for people: our relationship with ourselves, our relationship with the world, our relationship with each other and our relationship with money. This book addresses all four issues in turn thus providing a meditative and uplifting guide to living successfully.

Alexander Cold, his grandmother Kate, and his closest friend Nadia return in the follow-up to City of the Beasts on a new quest to find the fabled Golden Dragon of the Himalayas, another fantastical voyage of suspense, magic, and awe-inspiring adventure from internationally celebrated novelist Isabel Allende. Not many months have passed since teenager Alexander Cold followed his bold grandmother into the heart of the Amazon to uncover its legendary Beast. This time, reporter Kate Cold escorts her grandson and his closest friend, Nadia, along with the photographers from International Geographic, on a journey to another location far from home. Entering a forbidden sovereignty tucked in the frosty peaks of the Himalayas, the team's task is to locate a sacred statue and priceless oracle that can foretell the future of the kingdom, known as the Golden Dragon. In their scramble to reach the statue, Alexander and Nadia must use the transcendent power of their totemic animal spirits—Jaguar and Eagle. With the aid of a sage Buddhist monk, his young royal disciple, and a fierce tribe of Yeti warriors, Alexander and Nadia fight to protect the holy rule of the Golden Dragon—before it can be destroyed by the greed of an outsider.

"John 1-10: I Am the Bread of Life "is an excellent way to introduce young adults to the book of John and the life-changing message of Jesus in this Gospel. As John sees it, we human beings need God. We need God's light in our lives, his power to energize us. But for the most part we are not very aware of this need because we spend our lives running around looking for one thing after another, preoccupied with meeting our material and social needs. We tend to see God as the provider of earthly blessings rather than the source of something much more important. And of course, we also tend to ignore God and instead work to satisfy our own desires. John tells us how God tries to break through the barrier of our earthly thinking by entering into our world personally. Designed as a guided discovery, Six Weeks with the Bible for Catholic Teens introduces high school students to different books of the Bible by integrating the biblical text with insightful questions to help youth discern what Scripture means for their lives today. The series provides students with a clear explanation of Biblical text, opportunities for prayer, and a means to enter into conversation with God.
