Southern Baptists had long considered themselves a missionary people, but when, after World War II, they embarked on a dramatic expansion of missionary efforts, they confronted headlong the problem of racism. Believing that racism hindered their evangelical efforts, the Convention's full-time missionaries and mission board leaders attacked racism as unchristian, thus finding themselves at odds with the pervasive racist and segregationist ideologies that dominated the South. This progressive view of race stressed the biblical unity of humanity, encompassing all races and transcending specific ethnic divisions. In All According to God's Plan, Alan Scot Willis explores these beliefs and the chasm they created within the Convention. He shows how, in the post-World War II era, the most respected members of the Southern Baptists Convention publicly challenged the most dearly held ideologies of the white South.

I was in a Christian leadership meeting in the mid 80's where Pa S.G. Elton, a missionary in Nigeria for 50 years, was a guest speaker. Pa Elton was a towering apostolic and prophetic vessel. In that meeting he made this prophetic utterance: Nigeria and Nigerians will be known all over the world for corruption. Your name -- Nigeria will stink for corruption but after a while a new phase will come -- a phase of righteousness. People from the nations of the earth will hold to a Nigerian and say, We want to follow you to your nation to go and learn righteousness. This, I believe, will happen as a result of the promised revival and the transformation that will result from this. We have seen the first phase of the prophecy fulfilled with unimaginable accuracy. The second phase must of necessity be fulfilled with the same accuracy. This is the new dawn that this book is all about. This book, God's Eternal Plan for Nigeria: Seven Eras of the Nation repositions the history of our nation in the context of the events of the end-time of world history. This book is a record of the events the author was shown in a series of encounters which is a revelation of God's eternal plan for the nation.

Messenger is a study of the life, ministry, and theology of Sydney Granville Elton, a man who believed he had an apostolic message for the church in Nigeria and who stopped at nothing to deliver it. It will inspire you to find your place in prophetic destiny and fulfil it. Elton played the most significant role in shaping Pentecostalism in Nigeria during its first half-century. His impact on the movement was nothing short of revolutionary and his story is crucial to rediscovering the essence that created one of the most vibrant Pentecostal movements in the world. Messenger explores the beginnings of Pentecostalism in Nigeria, bringing alive the stories of its major characters, the passion that catapulted the outpouring into a national phenomenon, and the first major crisis that marked the turning point in its early history. Elton's pivotal role from these early days, and in virtually every significant initiative crucial to its development for fifty years is told in riveting detail. At no other time-when the foundations of Pentecostal Christianity in Nigeria are being vigorously shaken, and when both the church and the nation are in desperate need of a new breed of visionary and courageous leadership-does Elton's bold prophetic vision hold greater significance to our collective spiritual experience. Messenger will impart to you a fresh vision of God's purpose and stir you to be a part of it.

Amy Rebecca Williams was numb, weak, and alone. She was born out of adversity, a diamond in the rough from the beginning. No one in the world could ever understand the physical, emotional, and spiritual anguish she felt. The place that should have been her refuge became the epicenter of her persecution. The odds were against her, and she was doomed to fail; that is until He showed up. He picked her up and dealt with her in a way no one could. Through the blood, sweat, and tears, He showed up and made a way. This is a story that pushes beyond the limits of man; it is a story that exemplifies the true love of God and how His love never fails.

From a disciple of the late Chinua Achebe comes a masterful and universally acclaimed novel that is at once a taut, literary thriller and an indictment of greed’s power to subsume all things, including the sacred. Foreign Gods, Inc., tells the story of Ike, a New York-based Nigerian cab driver who sets out to steal the statue of an ancient war deity from his home village and sell it to a New York gallery. Ike's plan is fueled by desperation. Despite a degree in economics from a major American college, his strong accent has barred him from the corporate world. Forced to eke out a living as a cab driver, he is unable to manage the emotional and material needs of a temperamental African American bride and a widowed mother demanding financial support. When he turns to gambling, his mounting losses compound his woes. And so he travels back to Nigeria to steal the statue, where he has to deal with old friends, family, and a mounting conflict between those in the village who worship the deity, and those who practice Christianity. A meditation on the dreams, promises and frustrations of the immigrant life in America; the nature and impact of religious conflicts; an examination of the ways in which modern culture creates or heightens infatuation with the "exotic," including the desire to own strange objects and hanker after ineffable illusions; and an exploration of the shifting nature of memory, Foreign Gods is a brilliant work of fiction that illuminates our globally interconnected world like no other.
