Preparing for and securing one’s dream career has become more of a challenge than ever before. Because of this, the educational system also needs to change to meet the needs of our current students. Schools must help students begin the process of identifying careers that fit their interests and abilities early in their education. Research has shown that career exploration in school children is a critical step in developing career maturity. This project will develop a systematic career exploration/investigation program for students in grades seventh through twelfth. The implementation of this project at Kent City Middle School and High School will include all stakeholders on behalf of each student and align with the Educational Development Plan requirements of the Michigan Department of Education. The project will also fulfill the competencies and indicators in the ASCA National Model for Career Development: (1) develop career awareness, (2) develop employment readiness, (3) acquire career information, (4) identify career goals, (5) acquire knowledge to achieve career goals, and (6) apply skills to achieve career goals.
