Pervaded by the stench of self-satisfaction, self-obsession, and self-justification, the Church in the West, overcome by its culture, finds herself in an ailing condition very few seem to want to mention, never mind confront to correct. Biblical imperatives often go unheeded in the pew, largely because they are unsounded from the pulpit, as we live out our own dark and more sinister version of the Emperors New Clothes. Drawing primarily from the scriptures, along with other revival writers such as Finney, Tozer, Ravenhill, Getting Ready for Revival seeks to stimulate our minds out of our ignorance of Gods Word and stir our hearts over our forgetfulness of God, returning us to the wells we did not dig (Deut. 6:1012) of Gods provision and insistence that we may not die in the graves our own wells are.

God has always been interested in turning unlikely people into his most fervent followers. Prostitutes and pagans, tax collectors and tricksters. The more unlikely, the more it seemed to please God and to demonstrate his power, might, and mercy. America in the 1960s and 1970s was full of unlikely people--men and women who had rejected the stuffy religion of their parents' generation, who didn't follow the rules, didn't fit in. The perfect setting for the greatest spiritual awakening of the 20th century. With passion and purpose, Greg Laurie and Ellen Vaughn tell the amazing true story of the Jesus Movement, an extraordinary time of mass revival, renewal, and reconciliation. Setting fascinating personal stories within the context of one of the most tumultuous times in modern history, the authors draw important parallels with our own time of spiritual apathy or outright hostility, offering hope for the next generation of unlikely believers--and for the next great American revival. Those who lived through the Jesus Revolution will find here an inspiring reminder of the times and people that shaped their lives and faith. Younger readers will discover a forgotten part of recent American history and, along with it, a reason to believe that God is not finished with their generation.

Excerpt from Getting Ready: For a Revival Great as are many of the mistakes made in the management of revival work, there is none, in my judgment, so general and disastrous as the neglect adequately to prepare for the coming special services, weeks, and even months in advance. The time was when preparation for a revival was impossible, for a preacher with from ten to forty appointments to serve could do little more than preach, holding a meeting here or there as the Spirit seemed to indicate. The rapid concentration of mind and heart possible to our simple minded fathers on account of the lack of other subjects of thought and feeling made preparation less necessary than it is now in this day of complex civilization with its unnumbered distracting elements. What was once a simple problem has become a greatly complicated one whose solution requires great fertility in expedients and indomitable patience. I was impressed with this fact at the very beginning of my ministry, and what little success the Lord has given me in winning souls has seemed largely due on its human side to the plans and methods employed in preparing the way for the revival service. It has seemed a duty to give an account of the general principles which guided me in this work with such plans and methods as would illustrate them, and make them more suggestive, as a help to others whose thoughts have not taken the same direction, or whose youth and inexperience would lead them to welcome practical suggestions in this important work. OneCry: A Call to Spiritual Awakening is a challenge, a plea for readers to shake off spiritual apathy and wake up to the hope of God moving with extraordinary power in our day. It paints a picture of both desperation and hope; without spiritual revival our country has no hope, but when it comes we will need no other hope. Drawing on an abundance of stories from ordinary people who have experienced the power of life-changing revival in their own lives, this books provides a contemporary roadmap for spiritual awakening and real revival. Passionate and story-rich, OneCry engages readers to seek God urgently at this moment in history, it inspires them with hope for what God can do, and it invites them to join a growing movement of believers who are uniting in one cry for revival and spiritual awakening. It is a summons to join together in a single focus: passionate prayer for revival in our nation like hasn’t been seen in nearly two hundred years.

Imagine what our world might look like if Christians became known for remarkable love, as well as life-giving truth. The stakes are high and the need is great for Christians to represent Jesus to a watching world. And today, we have more influence than ever before--for better and for worse. We are among the first generations to have access to a global megaphone through social media. But it's not enough to speak truth louder to a noisy culture. To counter the reputation Christians have earned, our love must be just as loud. Ask evangelist Matt Brown, and he will tell you Christians today are facing a crisis of influence. In our rush to speak truth to today's tensions, cultural issues, and trending controversies, it becomes all too easy to focus on proving our points rather than extending God's grace. Conversely, when we seek only to love yet never proclaim a better way, we short-circuit God's plan. Truth Plus Love invites you to rediscover the biblical framework for engaging culture as ambassadors of Christ. Through biblical insight, cultural analysis, and practical principles, Matt Brown outlines how to champion truth without compromise, how to love unconditionally, and ultimately, how to step into this great adventure of representing God to the world. It's hard, it's messy, and it's the unfinished project of a lifetime, yet here we find our great adventure: representing God to a watching world.
