In Volume I, 399 Days: An American Adventure, the Taylor family visited the 48 contiguous United States. Their experiences bonded them together as never before. In their travels, they happened upon parades, concerts, regional festivals, holiday celebrations, and state fairs. The changing seasons brought natures kaleidoscope of colors. Although there were arguments and hurt feelings, they found grace and forgiveness through their relationships with Jesus Christ. Sometimes the challenges seemed to come from all directions, as they get sick, sore, snowed in, sent away, misquoted, misled, pulled over, and locked out. Through it all, the Lord provided and the family as thrived. Now the Taylors are ready for even higher adventure: a new continent with foreign languages, new currencies, exotic foods, and unfamiliar customs. When they mention their plans to others, most people shake their heads. They say its crazy. Maybe it is. Join them now as they embark on Volume II, 399 Days: Our European Escapade.

'If Germany stays united and marches to the rhythm of its revolutionary socialist outlook, it will be unbeatable. Our indestructible will to life, and the driving force of the Führer’s personality guarantee this.' (Joseph Goebbels, 4 June 1943.) It wasn't and it didn't.

It was on April 30, 1945 that the Red Army occupied Berlin, Hitler committed suicide in his underground bunker and the United Nations was being founded in San Francisco. Alexander Kluge covers this single historic day and unravels its passing hours across the different theatres of the Second World War, including the life of a small German town occupied by American forces and the story of two SS officers stranded on the forsaken Kerguelen Islands. The collective experiences Kluge paints here are jarring, poignant and imbued with meaning.

This is an unlikely story of true events. The Day that changed the World in the United States (bombing of the Twin Towers), the Day of Fate in Germany and the Day of Destiny in Israel are all connected with the 11th day of the 9th month. These 9/11 dates entail much more than three events in three countries. In the Hebrew tradition, they include all the calamities that have befallen the Jews from the time of the Destruction of the First Temple and Second Temple, the Expulsion of the Jews from England, France, Spain through to the Holocaust in World War II. These events are, in turn, part of a larger history, which linked the same date with cosmic events such as a day of Cosmic Battle and the Birth of Venus and gave special significance to the numbers 9 and 11. Part one explores this tradition and surveys a range of sources from a former German officer involved in the plot against Hitler, to various conspiracy theories. These events are also related to swastikas and hexagrams. Since World War II there has been a trend to associate swastikas with an evil, German Aryan tradition and hexagrams (e.g. six-pointed Star of David) with a good, Jewish Semitic tradition. Historically, a Jewish connection with the Star of David is late Mediaeval rather than Biblical. Swastikas and hexagrams are found in both the Aryan and the Semitic tradition. Hence, the new trend distorts a complex history. More disturbingly, in the guise of tolerance and political correctness, one version of stories is highlighted, others are being suppressed and truth is endangered.
