Excerpt from Geology of Colorado Ore Deposits This treatise contains the substance of a series of elementary lectures delivered by the author to the students of the Colorado State School of Mines. It is published with a view of meeting some of the needs of the general public, of the ordinary miner, and of the unscientific many, rather than with any idea of offer ing original matter for the discussion of the scientific few. The materials are derived partly from the writer's own researches, and largely from the most reliable resources available to him, such as the standard text-books and the valuable published reports of the United States Geological Survey. The writer having for a time been connected with that survey, knows full well how high a value is to be attached to those reports, which must remain for all time as a standard of reference for those interested in the geological relations of the mines of Colorado. The first part of the work contains a rough sketch of general Geology, for the benefit of those who are not familiar with the terms used in this science. The sketch is further applied to the local geology of Colorado. The second part refers to the phe domena of veins and ores, and their surroundings, as illustrated by Colorado. Excerpt from Geology and Ore Deposits of the Bonanza District: Saguache County Colorado The mining town of Bonanza furnishes an admirable example of that astonishing mushroom growth that has characterized the founding of so many mining camps in the Cordilleran west. Not only in its sudden growth from nothing to a populous mining community, but in its almost equally rapid decline after its failure to live up to the early expectations of limitless wealth has Bonanza many parallels in the Rocky Mountain mining districts. That, however, the town as a mining camp has persisted and today is able to show no little interest in the development of its mining resources, may be attributed to the fact that such resources do exist, and that those interested in their development have not lost faith in their ultimate success. This volume brings together a collection of papers that summarize current ideas and recent progress in the study of granite-related mineralization systems. They provide a combination of field, experimental and theoretical studies. Papers are grouped according to the main granite-related ore systems: granite-pegmatite, skarn and greisen-veins, porphyry, orogenic gold, intrusion-related, epithermal and porphyry-related gold and base metal, iron oxide-copper-gold (IOCG), and special case studies. The studies provide a broad spread in terms of both space and time, highlighting granite-related ore deposits from Europe (Russia, Sweden, Croatia and Turkey), the Middle East (Iran), Asia (Japan and China) and South America (Brazil and Argentina) and spanning rocks from Palaeoproterozoic to Miocene in age.
