"Looking back over this period of my life, while T am sure that I make mistakes, yet I am not conscious of ever having intentionally wronged any individual. In 1870, I was elected to the State Senate, and continued a State Senator for nearly eight years. "The service which I rendered to the State during that period met the approbation of all the intelligent and patriotic people of the State. About five years ago, I had to abandon the practice of law in the court-house on account of blindness. I was able, however, to help my son, with whom I practiced law, in office work, which is now my only vocation. "While I am not able to read or write mv-V self, and barely able to make my way in safety along the streets, I continue to study law, read the newspapers, keep up my connection with politics, through the aid of a reader and typewriter. "Although I am seventy-seven years of age, my health, with the exception of blindness, is tolerablv good. / O "You have now my story." This narrative was written November 14, 1895, and he died May 14, 1899, and was buried in Washington, Ga. The Washington (Ga.) paper thus writes of him: "William Miller Reese was born at the Navy-yard, Philadelphia, July 1818. He was the son of Dr. Milton Reese and Annie Miller. Dr. Milton Reese was the son of George Reese, who died in Pendleton, S. C., and to whose memory a monument was erected in the old / Stone Church-yard. "George Reese was the son of David Reese, of North Carolina, signer of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence, and was himself a soldier of the Revolution.
