Many of these Bible Records were compiled by Genealogical Records Committee, Sewel, New Jersey, and presented by Red Bank Chapter, D.A.R., Pitman, New Jersey. These include the enormous work done by Timothy Chalkley Matlack of Morrestown and members of the Red Bank Chapter. Other records were made available by Ann Whitall Chapter, D.A.R. of Woodbury, New Jersey; also, records from Cape May Patriots Chapter. For the most part Ms. Watring has selected only the early records for publication, primarily those which pre-date 1900. The records in this volume cover Salem and Cumberland Counties. Entries include a wealth of names, dates and relationships. Some entries provide interesting tidbits of additional information. An index to full-names and places adds to the value of this work. Mr. Smith has rescued from obscurity all references to individuals as can be found in the early statutes of Kentucky, producing, in effect, the Kentucky equivalent of Personal Names in Hening's Statutes at Large of Virginia. For each of the 5,000 persons named in this index, there is provided an identifying piece of information, such as occupation, legal status, relationship, etc., as well as the volume and page number in "Littell's Laws" where the name originally appears. This volume is also available on our Family Archive CD 7519.

This monumental work contains abstracts of all the known surveys, patents, and deeds of Proprietary New Jersey (1664-1703). Thousands of documents pertaining to title and transfer of land are here sorted and calendared, each revealing the names of grantors and grantees, buyers and sellers, relatives and neighbors--most with references to specific places of residence--and further giving a precise description of the survey, including date, location, and acreage. The records are arranged under the headings of East and West Jersey and are rendered accessible by the indexes which, containing well over 10,000 main entries, bear upwards of 50,000 references. In this work there are abstracts of original grants, concessions, and orders of the first Proprietors and Governors. These records describe the circumstances under which the first settlements were made in the Colony, the evolution of the government, the origin of the land titles in the Colony and in the various subdivisions thereof, and the origins and characteristics of the first settlers.
