Gemma Goodeve, a young actress with a promising career, is involved in a terrible train crash in which many lives are lost and many people are injured. Gemma herself has to have her lower leg amputated before she can be freed from the wreckage. When she wakes from the anaesthesia she has to face the difficult truth, deal with a long and painful recovery and accept that she will not be able to act anymore. Her young doctor, Nick Quennell, becomes more than professionally involved in Gemma's care as he tries to protect her from the media circus that surrounds the rail accident and her own mother, who is far from being supportive. But is his care and romantic feeling really what Gemma needs and wants in this terrible moment in her life? In Gemma's Journey, first published in 1997, Beryl Kingston sets the romantic plot against the difficult issues of recovering from a life changing accident and with her characteristic interest in social problems she also explores the breakup of the rail network and gaps in the NHS system.

Prince of Solana - Book One Exiled for the past eight years with only gambling and liquor for comfort, Prince André of Solana spends his days drowning in regret. Only when the Lozano cartel assassinates his father and brother, duty to his island country trumps his fear and guilt. Forced out and found by assassins, his trusted bodyguard hides him in the one place where no one would think to look: a Texas cattle ranch. There he meets Gemma Westfall, a trigger-happy ranch hand with a distrust for liars and gamblers. The two immediately butt heads, but underneath the embers of quarrel smolders a raging attraction. The unlikely chemistry between the celebrity royal and the rough and rowdy cowgirl is hotter than the Texas heat. When Gemma's home is destroyed and André's identity exposed, a fiery vengeance is unleashed. As André fights to save his people and find his sister, Gemma's revenge sets them on a course to wade into dangerous waters. ROYALS OF SOLANA The island of Solana has it all: royals, money, and the never-ending assault of vicious cartels and even tougher paparazzi. Chaos plagues the Peralta family time and again, all while fighting to maintain their legacy and the safety of their small country. When the Lozano cartel murders the king and crown prince, the surviving royal siblings Alanna and Andre are forced to flee, desperate to save their lives and find a way to reclaim their country. As they scramble to build alliances, and find unexpected love along the way, they realize there's more to lose than they ever imagined. Come get lost in the Royals of Solana series, where the action is hot and the sizzling romance is steamier than the South Pacific! The first two books (Prince of Solana and Jewel of Solana) can be read in either order. They occur at the same time. Crown of Solana should be read after both novels, as it is the continuation of both stories.

As Princess Yahaloma slept, I made my way through the wall of butterflies that surrounded us and out into the night. I noticed the heaviness of the air outside of the butterflies. It was hard to breathe as the air was thick and had an odd smell to it. My feet seemed to slip a little as I walked because of the mist that covered the ground. Feeling very uncomfortable, I picked up a large stick for protection. I moved through the tall grass, noticing the direction we must follow in the morning. Nothing moved out here. There was no moon, no wind, no sound, no nothing. It was very dark, only light came from the stars above. I stood still, watched, and listened. Suddenly, I saw a dim flicker of light about fifty feet from where I stood. Turning and looking closer I saw another dim flicker of light. I moved carefully, taking a few steps at a time forward, and my eyes began to sharpen with a clear night vision. Looking around, I saw there were ugly brown butterflies, some as tall as I. They danced as if they had legs like a man. Raising their antennas and rubbing them together made a terrible sound in the night. In the middle of the ugly large butterflies stood a very tall man. Wait, it was the man I saw walking with Princess Yahaloma! It was him! Why was he dressed so oddly? His black clothes had large sharp pointed spears all over them—so sharp that to even come close to them, you would be severely cut without even touching them. I saw fire coming up from under his feet that didn't even faze him. His arms outstretched, shaking many shiny necklaces then spewing vicious words against them, sometimes even screaming and cursing at the necklaces then laughing loudly. He threw his head backward, shrieking, and then dropped those beautiful necklaces into the fire. I crouched down in the tall grass. I didn't want anyone to see me. Who and what was this? Feeling scared, I decided to head back to Princess Yahaloma. I should have never left her. What was I thinking?
