This book is open access under a CC BY 4.0 license. This book addresses the peculiarities of the current presidential election system not yet addressed in other publications. It argues that any rules for electing a President that may have a chance to replace the current ones should provide an equal representation of states as equal members of the Union, and of the nation as a whole. This book analyzes the National Popular Vote plan and shows that this plan may violate the Supreme Court decisions on the equality of votes cast in statewide popular elections held to choose state electors. That is, the National Popular Vote plan may violate the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. The book proposes a new election system in which the will of the states and the will of the nation as a whole are determined by direct popular elections for President and Vice President in the 50 states and in D.C. This system a) would elect President a candidate who is the choice of both the nation as a whole and of the states as equal members of the Union, b) would let the current system elect a President only if the nation as a whole and the states as equal members of the Union fail to agree on a common candidate, and c) would encourage the candidates to campaign nationwide. The second edition has been updated to include a proposal on how to make established non-major party presidential candidates and independent candidates welcome participants in national televised presidential debates with the major-party candidates.

Mark Lando's unique perspective on thoroughbred body language has given me an ability to separate contenders. It's an edge that I didn't have before, which immediately led to profitable results." - Charles "Chip" Reed, One of Maryland's leading stakes winning owners and breeders and a Director of the Maryland Thoroughbred Horseman's Association. The primary focus of this book is to show the player how to get an edge in this difficult game. Doing what everyone else is doing erodes value and dooms the bettor to failure. Lando's "Game Plan" using angles, tells and strategies affords the handicapper in-the-now ability to garner large, exciting pay offs. The Addendum showing the results of his stratagem is original. Lando's approach eschews the usual salvo of tedious charts and graphs making "Game Plan for Signers" an easy-to-understand archetypal exercise based on common sense and thoroughbred psyche.. MARK LANDO, a journalism graduate of American University, an Army Veteran and lifelong horse lover and handicapper, fell in love with horses at the age of five at ranch camp in Columbia County, New York. Lando worked in the periodical industry for over 40 years as President and CEO of several companies. He also owned book stores in Pennsylvania and New York. Lando has owned and raced thoroughbreds since college and recently has managed horseracing partnerships. He divides his time between York, Pennsylvania and South Florida.

As a result of the series of four research and debate symposia convened by ETH Zurich members with international academics and practitioners in the field of spatial planning, this book revolves around 'inspiring stories' that describe a wide variety of spatial problems as well as the planning mechanisms used to address these; in addition, 'fundamental topics' are provided to facilitate the understanding of certain planning processes illustrated by the practical cases. There are two main reasons behind choosing this method to introduce spatial planning. Firstly, the spatial planning profession is facing a great crisis. Experts are confronted with a quantum leap in the availability of information and the variety of visualisation and simulation instruments suitable for their analysis. While planners can certainly rely on the new technologies available to support the planning process, it seems to be that the nature of planning processes is being underestimated. A second motive for creating this book lies in the relationship between planners as experts and interested lay persons. The latter are usually fascinated with the physical interventions in space, whether these are great urban and architectural complexes or astonishing infrastructural projects. However, what seems to be forgotten, again, is the careful planning process that brought the interventions into being despite numerous problems of various kinds. Therefore, the key question is: How can planners bring this fascinating process and its results to the larger public and create a fuller understanding? This book intends to answer this question and create interest and curiosity for the field of spatial planning in a simple and clear manner. Introducing case descriptions of:• A new park in Milan• Storm water protection in Chicago• Redevelopment of an industrial brownfield in Attisholz etc.
