Nobody tells the story of women out for revenge quite like Ni’chelle Genovese does. Follow Michelle, Honey, and Novie as they struggle to protect themselves and hit back at the people who have wronged them. Michelle has been broken down, restored, and at the hands of Honey, practically demolished. The woman that has emerged is hell bent on revenge, until an unexpected twist of destiny turns her world completely inside out. Honey is preoccupied with her re-emergence into the world, embracing her new life as the "Queen of Miami." The only thing that might destroy her faster than Michelle’s rage is her new Mafia family. She’s learning that all that glitters comes with hands attached to dimmer switches—and right now they’re itching to hit the off button. When the only options are bad and worse, Honey does the unthinkable and reaches into her past for a favor that might end up costing her more than the Family can even afford to pay. With her mother bugging her to help the family or disappear, and her father on a mission to keep reaping land, cars, and more side chicks no matter the cost, Novie is feeling pressured. She makes the decision to dive into even crazier waters, aka Genesis Kane’s bed. When she winds up pregnant by Genesis, she quickly learns that he is not who she thought he was. Now, with no choice but to return home to the family she despises, Novie sets her sights on making Genesis pay for his mistakes.

The Princess who returns to the mansion is far different from the star who left with Einstein the night before, and Obie finds her "carry on as usual" attitude a bit hard to take. Forced to separate by conflicting career demands, their racial and social class issues ignite. While Obie and Princess ponder how long they can make their relationship work, three deaths in a row push a still-fragile Princess over the edge, and Obie wonders if things will ever be right again.

"Baby safe haven" laws, which allow a parent to relinquish a newborn baby legally and anonymously at a specified institutional location--such as a hospital or fire station--were established in every state between 1999 and 2009. Promoted during a time of heated public debate over policies on abortion, sex education, teen pregnancy, adoption, welfare, immigrant reproduction, and child abuse, safe haven laws were passed by the majority of states with little contest. These laws were thought to offer a solution to the consequences of unwanted pregnancies: mothers would no longer be burdened with children they could not care for, and newborn babies would no longer be abandoned in dumpsters. Yet while these laws are well meaning, they inadequately address the social injustices that compel abandonment for the very small number of girls and women who abandon their newborns. Advocates of safe haven laws target teenagers, women of color and poor women in particular with safe haven information under the assumption that they cannot offer good homes for their children. Laury Oaks argues that the labeling of certain kinds of women as potential "bad" mothers who should consider anonymously giving up their newborns for adoption into a "loving" home should best be understood as an issue of reproductive justice. Safe haven discourses promote narrow images of who deserves to be a mother and reflect restrictive views on how we should treat women experiencing an unplanned pregnancy.

Erin Kong's debut collection begs the question: How does one mourn a memory unforgotten? "korean mourning rituals" dissects the psyche and mythology of the Korean American act of sorrowing, and pageants the lived experience of an Asian American womxn as unwilling subject to ornamentalism and the ongoing colonization of the body. Kong's poems lament the emotional and psychological aftermath of war as it carries through the bloodline and beyond borders.
