This book introduces body psychotherapy as one of the essential approaches in psychotherapy, reflecting the increasing integration of the body into clinical mental health practice. The book offers an entirely new view on body psychotherapy based upon advanced research on embodiment, memory, emotion regulation, developmental psychology and body communication and an experiential and relational understanding of psychotherapy. Accordingly, the author grounds the theory of body psychotherapy on the theoretical approach of enactivism, which regards experience as arising from meaningful living interaction with others and their environment. The book, fortified with clinical examples, shows the distinctiveness of body psychotherapy as compared with a traditional talking therapy approach. It also convincingly demonstrates that each form of psychotherapy should consider body experiences. This text will be a comprehensive foundation for psychotherapists of every orientation, scholars of the humanities and students and especially those wishing to integrate embodied experience into their understanding of their patients.

H. RoSKAMM This International Symposium to be held on the occasion of the third anniversary of our institution and under the auspices of the European Society of Cardiology is entitled "Ventricular Function at Rest and During Exercise". We have chosen the general term "ventricular function", because we want to include the different aspects of myocardial function like contrac tility, relaxation and compliance and their influence upon the overall pumping function of the heart. Heart failure at rest is a rather advanced outcome of a continuous spectrum of function disturbances. In order to grade these, it is reasonable to differentiate between pump function of the heart as a whole and muscle function of the myocardium. Compen satory factors like hypertrophy or the Frank-Starling mechanism may maintain the overall pump function of the ventricle, despite a defect in the underlying myocardial contractility. The time sequence of the func tional disturbances may be as follows (Fig. 1): EXERCISE £""-----,--------------, >- " 5 ~, ~ ~, ~ '~ I o u f--~__;_;IJ"_'_~'"'"* t REST II Fig. 1. Sexual dysfunctions have a high prevalence in males and females, and an increase in research into its backgrounds, causes and treatment is clearly visible. Characterization of sexual dysfunctions is complex and often needs extensive clinical, psychological and psychiatric expertise to arrive at reliable diagnoses. The present volume illustrates various aspects involved in sexual (dys)functioning but also the complexity of the field. Premature ejaculation, erectile dysfunction, female interest/arousal disorder, hypogonadism, sexual side effects of antidepressants and circumcision are subject of the various contributions. The topics treated nicely illustrate the problems associated with sexual function and dysfunction, including lifestyle, biological, mental, sociocultural and religious aspects. The topics in this volume clearly demonstrate the importance of research on sexual functions and dysfunctions.

Accounting for more than 40% of all heart failure problems, diastolic heart failure is a complex and often difficult diagnosis with rapidly evolving diagnostic management protocols. Diastology: Clinical Approach to Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction, 2nd Edition, brings you up to date and equips you to successfully diagnose and manage even the most challenging incidences of diastolic heart failure and their comorbidities. It incorporates the latest guidelines for the diagnostic evaluation of the patient with suspected or known diastolic dysfunction, provides a comprehensive review of clinical conditions associated with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, and describes the complementary role of imaging modalities and novel therapeutic approaches. - Keeps you current with recent extensive changes in the understanding of the mechanisms of diastolic heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) that have resulted in dramatic changes in treatment guidelines. - Covers the latest molecular, genetic, and cellular mechanisms behind diastolic heart failure as a basis for the latest clinical approaches, diagnosis, and treatment of common and uncommon pathological conditions such as hypertensive heart disease, cardiomyopathies, arterial and valvular diseases, pericardial diseases, congenital heart disease, diabetes mellitus, and metabolic syndrome. - Features 50 video cases, new key summary points, new multiple-choice review questions, and six new chapters: Evaluation of Diastolic Function by Radionuclide Techniques; Diastology Stress Test; ASE/EACVI Diastolic Guidelines; Valve Disease; Perioperative Assessment of Diastolic Dysfunction; and Pulmonary Hypertension. - Reviews new techniques and indices for assessing diastolic function, such as 3D echo, strain rate imaging, late gadolinium enhancement and T1-mapping by CMR, and novel nuclear scintigraphic methods – as well as the traditional indices of LV filling, LA function, and tissue Doppler indices. - Covers emerging topics such as the role of neurohormones, global and regional systolic function of the left ventricle, chronotopic incompetence and pacing, aging, perioperative assessment, and more. - Presents information in a quick-retrieval format, covering Epidemiology, Pathophysiology, Diagnostic Evaluation, Differential Diagnosis, Treatment, and Future Directions. - Helps you learn efficiently and prepare for self-assessment with key summaries and multiple-choice questions and answers for each chapter.

This book presents useful tips and strategies on how to integrate aligner orthodontics successfully into clinical practice, whether outsourced or with in-office aligner treatment. This second edition sees the authors review the diagnostic protocols and the biomechanics of aligners before presenting aligner orthodontics protocols. Supported by accompanying case documentation, the discussion of each malocclusion includes information on the associated symptoms, the rationale behind the selected treatment approaches, and the various outcomes achieved. The separation into sections on each malocclusion helps patients and clinicians in deciding whether this system can provide optimal treatment outcomes for a particular clinical situation. This is a practical manual for any clinician interested in the treatment modality of aligner orthodontics.
