Although she is a child, Lottie Parsons has already grown to understand hardship. As one of the youngest members of a poor African American family working a farm owned by a wealthy landowner in Willow Creek, Georgia, Lottie picks beans under the hot sun, shells peas on the front porch, and carefully observes her mother as she approaches every hardship with pride, prayer, and a focus on family values. Although Lottie's family usually has more monthly bills than income, they still manage to enjoy wonderful meals prepared by her mother, who makes tasty pots of ham hocks, green beans, and red potatoes-with pound cake for dessert. As Lottie goes about her days on the farm, she aspires to become a doctor and gathers strength to pursue her dreams from the role models around her, including her mother, her aunt Ella, and her grandmother, Nana Rose. But it is not long before Lottie soon realizes that nothing lasts forever-even in Willow Creek. From Whence We Came shares the compassionate, historical tale of a southern African American family as they attempt to overcome challenges and adjust as life takes them in a new direction.

This book is a celebration of our history. It serves to honor our loved ones who have gone to glory. Their love will sustain us all through our ups and downs. We must never forget our oral or written history. Please read this book and remember that Aunt Whoever was a great cook or that Uncle Whoever would always slip you a little change. Think about how much you loved your ancestors (maybe some a little more than others) then read about them in this book. As you look in the mirror see whose features you can see in your face, then read about that loved one. Teach the young ones that we have a proud history and every family is made up of achievers and under achievers but that's okay, we still love them all. We are a family who can trace our roots back to slavery. We now have family members who are (doctors, lawyers, business managers, teachers, politicians almost any profession you can think of. This book will help us reminisce about our lineage as we optimistically look toward what the future holds for the Pierce/Bond family. So, family be strong and remember our heritage, our forefathers, they were our building blocks. We must make them proud of the structure they established for us. LET US LOVE ONE ANOTHER, FOR LOVE IS FROM GOD. 1 JOHN 4:7

ROOTS FROM WHENCE WE CAME, (love, devotion and tender thoughts) is a collection of poems and writings by Elsie Buscher Diemer, two of her children and a great-granddaughter. Elsies contributions began during her high school years in the early 1920 ́s and continued throughout the rest of her life untill she passed away in 1970. Her first born, Paul J. Diemer and second child, Eleanor Diemer Sidley, likewise began their writings during their high school years. Their writings cover the era from the earliest 1950 ́s til the present 2008. Elsie’s great-granddaughter, Jenna Burnett started putting her thoughts in writing during her preteen years. This collection encompasses the thoughts, beliefs and desires of these four authors. At times you find nostalgia, humor, faith and perhaps a little despair throughout these pages. There is also some history lessons on the building of a community and the making of a viable family farm. Some fiction enters in with Paul’s stories of the mountain man, Bill Starkey, which includes some Indian lore. We hope this book holds your attention and, perhaps, kindle a desire to put your own thoughts and feelings to pen and paper.

Elected in 1960 as the 35th President of the USA, John Fitzgerald Kennedy remains to this day the office’s youngest incumbent and he was its first Roman Catholic. His term in office was short, but arguably no US President has inspired more people around the globe than JFK. Even today, for generations born decades after his death, President Kennedy’s legacy has an enduring appeal. This insightful book contains specially commissioned pieces by a range of respected academic and political figures, including former Obama speechwriter, Cody Kennan, the President of the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights organisation, Kerry Kennedy, and former senior adviser to Bernie Sanders, Tad Devine. With the presidency of Joe Biden seeing a renewed focus on broader themes within Irish, American and global politics, From Whence I Came is a fascinating and timely collection that offers a fresh perspective on the Kennedy legacy and the politics of Ireland and the United States.

As we reach the later years of life, I am sure all of us have experienced the thought, If I could do it over again. You know the feeling ... if only I had ... This realization toward the end of our lives, when we get a clear look at what our life has been, or could have been, with different decisions. The crystal ball shows us only the road behind with 20/20 vision. As is certainly my case. I will recite my life in the first person, narrated as it actually happened. In the ensuing words and story, I will lay out the road my life has taken. It had sadness, happiness, disappointments, exhilarations, success, and failure. Plainly speaking ... the ups and downs most lives have, although mine have been more varied, with touches of success and notoriety, than most ... It has taken me from an impoverished family of a single mother and five children in the depths of the Great Depression of the ’30s in Oklahoma. This single mother raised three to serve in the military during WWII, two to go to the University of Oklahoma, one to have some success as an actor in Hollywood in television and movies.
