[The book] is designed for the college nonscience major. The textbook emphasizes the basic concepts in physics, chemistry, and astronomy and presents an overview of meteorology and geology. Because many courses cover only physics, chemistry, and perhaps astronomy, [the authors] have concentrated [their] efforts in those areas of physical science; however, [they] do provide broad-brush coverage of meteorology and geology for courses that present more of a survey of phsycial science. One of the features of [the book] is the importance [the authors] place on fundamental concepts ... [Their] approach is more descriptive than quantitative ... Even though [they] have treated each discipline both descriptively and quantitively, little emphasis is placed on math. [They] have provided mathematical assistance for students who may need it.-Pref.
