Area of timberland now occupies less than 477,000 acres, or 6 percent of the total land area in South Florida. Area of nonindustrial private forest land totals 439,000 acres. Oak-gum-cypress is the predominant hardwood forest type. Volume of softwood growing stock totals 423 million cubic feet and volume of hardwood growing stock totals 34 million cubic feet.
