This 2001 book provides a selective annotated bibliography of the principal floras and related works of inventory for vascular plants. The second edition was completely updated and expanded to take into account the substantial literature of the late twentieth century, and features a more fully developed review of the history of floristic documentation. The works covered are principally specialist publications such as floras, checklists, distribution atlases, systematic iconographies and enumerations or catalogues, although a relatively few more popularly oriented books are also included. The Guide is organised in ten geographical divisions, with these successively divided into regions and units, each of which is prefaced with a historical review of floristic studies. In addition to the bibliography, the book includes general chapters on botanical bibliography, the history of floras, and general principles and current trends, plus an appendix on bibliographic searching, a lexicon of serial abbreviations, and author and geographical indexes.

Here is the most inclusive field guide available to the wildflowers in the northeastern United States. Designed for easy use, the book features two-page spreads with descriptive text and range maps on one side facing pages of color photos on the other. The descriptions are concise, but thorough, and the range maps show both where the plant grows and what time of year it is likely to be in bloom. Plants are grouped by flower color, usually the feature first noticed by the observer. The species are subsequently grouped by petal arrangement, type of leaves, and number of flower parts as indicated in the "quick characters" box at the top of each page.

The beautifully illustrated Designing Gardens with Flora of the American East approaches landscape design from an ecological perspective, encouraging professional horticulturalists and backyard enthusiasts alike to intensify their use of indigenous or native plants. These plants, ones that grow naturally in the same place in which they evolved, form the basis of the food web. Wildlife simply cannot continue to survive without them-nor can we. Summers provides guidelines for * The best ways to use exotic and nonindigenous plants responsibly * Easy-to-follow strategies for hosting butterflies, bees, moths, birds, and fish * Designs for traditional gardens using native trees, shrubs, vines, grasses, perennials, fruiting plants, and groundcovers as substitutes for exotic plants * How to control plant reproduction, choose cultivars, open-pollinated indigenous plants, and different types of hybrids.

The listing includes references to floristics and phytogeography including lists for the province and parts of the province, provincial surveys involving one or more species and shorter articles and notes involving new orinteresting records. The area covered includes New Brunswick, insularNewfoundland and Nova Scotia. References to the flora of the islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon, and some concerning Labrador, are included under Newfoundland because of their close geographic position and consequentfloristic similarity.
