This report reviews and evaluates nondestructive testing equipment currently available and used for the dynamic evaluation of pavements and the design of flexible pavement overlays. The equipment described includes Dynaflect and Road Rater steady-state deflection devices and Dynatest and Phoenix falling weight deflectometers. Information presented includes basic equipment descriptions, operational characteristics, and current prices quoted by the manufacturer or distributor. The overall goal of the study described in this report was to provide a rational means by which a specific piece of equipment could be selected for use in the development of an overlay design method in South Carolina.
