First Person, Twice Removed is a novel depicting the true story in the life of a young boy seeking his place on the food chain as he and his family travel from near eviction on the West side of Chicago to the splendors of Brdgeport on the South side of Chicago. His families, shoestring, purchase of a six flat in the Bridgeport area and the challenges it present as it tries to fall down around their ears one apartment at a time gives new meaning to that old adage ''a great learning experience.'' From broken pipes at 12 below to dead cats in the attic at 96 above. From steel poles in the head to operating on a brothers gun shot wound he travels from one dilemma to the next trying to stay one step ahead fo the beat cop and the many Fagan wanna be's we all meet along the way. His travels in and around the building prepare him for a life of normal stupid choices and decisions that take him to the brink of death only to escape by the skin of his teeth just in time for his next harrowing debacle. Along with his 4 siblings they learn what it means to have a loving, forgiving and supportive family unit. The family and the neighborhood become a place of comfort and safety. It's evident one can go back (if only in your mind) if you don't spoil it on your first trip through. Even though the account was penned by one of the seven, it could have been written by any one of the players with just a little different flavor.

You don't have to learn everything about genetic genealogy before asking specific questions of your DNA! That's the premise of Diahan Southard's brand new book, Your DNA Guide - the Book, now available for pre-order at a special sale price. Your DNA Guide - the Book is like no other genetic genealogy book on the market. Instead of learning more-than-you-need-to-know in textbook style, you'll choose a specific DNA question to start exploring right away. You'll follow concrete step-by-step plans, learning important DNA concepts--in plain English--as you go. Do you want to learn who your 2X great grandmother is? Turn to page 23. Do you want to know how you are related to one of your DNA matches? Page 37. As you proceed, you check your progress and get new guidance based on your specific results at each stage. (Including troubleshooting, like when your matches just aren't responding or your great-grandparents turn out to be first cousins.) This powerful, hands-on approach is based on Diahan's 20 years of experience in the genetic genealogy industry and especially in the past five years, as she helps clients one-on-one make DNA discoveries. It became clear to her that while each client's situation may be unique, there are patterns in how you can find solutions that you can apply yourself. Your DNA Guide - the Book is for anyone who has taken a DNA test or may want to. It helps genealogists reconstruct family trees. It helps adoptees identify biological relatives. It can help you identify a specific DNA match. In short, it helps anyone explore what their DNA--and their DNA matches--can tell them about their origins.

Family can be murder. Just ask Henry Atkinson. A slam-bang series debut “reminiscent of those stories told by Dashiell Hammett . . . dark, and gritty” (Tessa Talks Books). Henry Atkinson’s life as an attorney is slow, predictable, and lonely, given his divorce and his ex-wife’s custody of the kids. He recently took up genealogy as a hobby to fill the time, but it doesn’t do much to spice up his mundane routine. Until the day he prods at a dead end of one of the branches of his family tree. Who is this cousin Shelley, whom he’s never met or even heard of in years? Ignoring a warning to leave well enough alone, Henry still doesn’t find much in his deeper dive into the mystery—just a concerning criminal record for the man that finally convinces him to drop the matter. But Shelley is a man who doesn’t want to be found or even looked for. And now he knows someone has been looking. Faster than he knows what’s hit him, Henry is propelled into sudden mayhem, receiving ominous threats, meeting mysterious strangers, and running for his life. Second Cousin Once Removed is a fast-paced, sweaty-palm thriller that will keep you hooked until the last page. “An enthralling, unique, and captivating story that makes it impossible to put the book down.” —The Artsy Reader

This publication traces the history, accomplishments and milestones of the Creole Center located at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. THE Creole Book presents a beginning look at some of the Center's work and accomplishments. In its thirteen plus years of existence, the Center has served not only the Creoles in Louisiana, but the national Creole public, scholars, and anyone interested in the culture from around the world. It has paved the way for the long sought after recognition of the unique and deserving Louisiana Creole culture. The Center has also become the national Creole voice. To put it bluntly, Creoles can now be comfortable in declaring their culture and heritage. It is the author's belief that this would not be possible without the work that the Creole Center has done.
