Easy Finite Element Method with Software explains fundamentals of the finite element method so that it is easy to understand. The book includes a finite element color graphics software which is simple to use on personal computers or notebooks. The finite element theory described in the book together with the accompanied software can help beginners to understand the entire process of the method quickly. The book presents the use of the method for analyzing problems in different disciplines. These include: (a) thermal, (b) stress, (c) thermal stress, (d) potential flow, (e) viscous flow, and (f) high-speed compressible flow problems. Their differential equations, finite element equations and matrices are presented. The accompanied software, EasyFEM, was developed for beginners who had little or no background on using a finite element software. The software combines both the color graphics visualization and the finite element analyzer.

This book is an adventure into the computer analysis of three dimensional composite structures using the finite element method (FEM). It is designed for Universities, for advanced undergraduates, for graduates, for researchers, and for practising engineers in industry. The text advances gradually from the analysis of simple beams to arbitrary anisotropic and composite plates and shells; it treats both linear and nonlinear behavior. Once the basic philosophy of the method is understood, the reader may expand its application and modify the computer programs to suit particular needs. The book arose from four years research at the University of Stuttgart, Germany. We present the theory and computer programs concisely and systematically so that they can be used both for teaching and applications. We have tried to make the book simple and clear, and to show the underlying physical and mathematical ideas. The FEM has been in existence for more than 50 years. One of the authors, John Argyris, invented this technique in World War II in the course of the check on the analysis of the swept back wing of the twin engined Meteor Jet Fighter. In this work, he also consistently applied matrix calculus and introduced triangular membrane elements in conjunction with two new definitions of triangular stresses and strains which are now known as the component and total measures. In fact, he was responsible for the original formulation of the matrix force and displacement methods, the forerunners of the FEM.

Finite Element Analysis Applications: A Systematic and Practical Approach strikes a solid balance between more traditional FEA textbooks that focus primarily on theory, and the software specific guidebooks that help teach students and professionals how to use particular FEA software packages without providing the theoretical foundation. In this new textbook, Professor Bi condenses the introduction of theories and focuses mainly on essentials that students need to understand FEA models. The book is organized to be application-oriented, covering FEA modeling theory and skills directly associated with activities involved in design processes. Discussion of classic FEA elements (such as truss, beam and frame) is limited. Via the use of several case studies, the book provides easy-to-follow guidance on modeling of different design problems. It uses SolidWorks simulation as the platform so that students do not need to waste time creating geometries for FEA modelling. - Provides a systematic approach to dealing with the complexity of various engineering designs - Includes sections on the design of machine elements to illustrate FEA applications - Contains practical case studies presented as tutorials to facilitate learning of FEA methods - Includes ancillary materials, such as a solutions manual for instructors, PPT lecture slides and downloadable CAD models for examples in SolidWorks

This is a book about software packages for use by civil engineers. It is written for engineers who need software that can do the job without re quiring that they become computer experts or programmers. The purpose of this book is to present a broad picture of the personal computer packages now available for use by civil engineers. Each chapter is devoted to an area, such as structures, surveying, hydrology, drafting, or equation-solving, in which a number of software packages are presently offered for use with personal computers. The chapter introductions explain what kinds of design or analysis or other tasks these packages perform, outlining the available choices, and comparing the capabilities of the var ious packages. Detailed reviews of individual packages follow. The emphasis here is on what the user must know and do to employ the capabilities of the package. Going beyond general description, these reviews also explain what the pack ages actually will and will not do. Although many packages are covered, there is no attempt here at completeness. In every category covered in the book, many more packages exist than those that have been reviewed. In the fast-moving field of engineering software, many new packages are cur rently being written and marketed.
