Excerpt from 70th Annual Report to the Citizens of Keene, New Hampshire: A Report for the Year Ending December 31, 1943 The art of Reporting is as old as the written word whether cut in stone, written on parchment or set in type. The oldest known records of the sayings and deeds of prophets, phar oahs and kings were, in effect, reporting. Later on, the early examples of reports concerning this country were the cartographers' maps of voyages of discovery. Then later came the newspapers, followed by official reporting of business corporations and governmental bodies, which in many cases, has been so formal as to be largely statistical and therefore uninteresting. Especially has this been true of Town Reports, the reporting and printing of which has followed a style precedent set generations ago. Within the past decade, the public began to evidence a greater interest in its civic business and a change is being noted in the reporting and prin ting of municipal reports. Official reporting of a municipal business must, of course, be done accur ately. But a City Report need not necessarily be presented in the prosaic form to which we have long been accustomed. With this belief in mind, the Printing Committee of the incumbent City Government presents the 1943 Annual Report of the City of Keene in a modern styling - informal in its writing, more attractive in its typography. The change was made to encourage your interest in and to incite your study of our community affairs. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
