This book describes the diseases that are most frequently encountered during general medical consultation. The discussion of each condition includes the following: Introductory paragraph. This section summarizes the condition, its definition, main clinical characteristics, and epidemiology, as a quick guide for the doctor regarding the specific disease, the type of people who may suffer from it, and its prognosis. Etiopathogenesis. Here, the causes of the disease are explained in a simple and concrete manner to give the doctor a clearer picture of the pathology of the disease. Signs and symptoms. In this section the most significant characteristics of the disease are described, which makes it possible to identify and differentiate the disease from other similar ones. Diagnosis. This section provides the key information to establish the diagnosis of each condition. In most cases, the clinical information is explained in such a way that neither laboratory nor office testing will be required. Treatment. This section contains a concise listing of the most effective, current, accessible, and least toxic drugs to treat the disease, together with dosages for adults and children (where applicable), in addition to the length of time that the drug should be taken. Almost all of the drugs described are available in generic form, which is an important economic consideration for the patient. In Mexico and many other countries, the quality of these products is verified by bioequivalence tests to compare the activity of the patent drug with the generic one. Most physicians need to prescribe fewer than 100 different drugs for their various patients. Therefore, it is much more important, especially in terms of patient safety, that the doctor have in-depth prescription information about a few drugs, than to know a little about a wide range of drugs that he/she may never have the opportunity to prescribe.

Minimally invasive aesthetic procedures are an important part of dermatologists’ day-to-day clinical routine. However, plastic surgeons are also becoming more willing to explore them, and minimally invasive cosmetic and aesthetic procedures are now an established interdisciplinary topic. Minimally Invasive Aesthetic Procedures - A Guide for Dermatologists and Plastic Surgeons addresses the needs of both these specialties. It provides a comprehensive overview of the most relevant and widely used minimally invasive procedures, presented in a practical and straightforward style. Rather than a broad overview of the literature, it offers a step-by-step guide to clinical procedures. Each chapter explores a single clinical procedure, discussing the theoretical basis; the materials needed; the methods and techniques; clinical follow-up; before-and-after illustrations; as well as the side effects and complications and their management. It also includes a summary of tips and relevant references. With more than a hundred procedures presented and discussed in a clinically applicable format, Minimally Invasive Aesthetic Procedures - A Guide for Dermatologists and Plastic Surgeons is a practical manual for all dermatology and plastic surgery practitioners who are interested in aesthetic medicine.

Leiomyosarcomas (LMS) are soft tissue tumours derived from smooth muscles cells, often in the uterus, retroperitoneum, skin, vessels, and bone. They are one of the most common types of sarcoma. Most leiomyosarcomas are sporadic, but may develop in the setting of genetic syndomes such as hereditary retinoblastoma and L-Fraumeni syndrome. Leiomyosarcomas may also be a result of radiation exposure; however, radiation-induced sarcomas are typically undifferentiated, fibrosarcomas or malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors. Like other sarcomas, prognosis is worse with higher grade tumours. Although chemotherapy and radiation are sometimes used as adjuvant therapy, the mainstay of therapy, and the only chance for cure, is surgery. The management of LMS is especially complex when the tumour involves major blood vessels. This book discusses the diagnosis and treatments most effectively used for Leiomyosarcomas. It also provides insight on the specific areas that LMS is found and how it affects that area.
