This document is a User's Guide for FEM-X, a database management system for finite element models. The Guide describes the organization of finite element model data and descriptive text in FEM-X, and describes briefly the operations of model data entry and text data entry, and extraction and translation of model data. FEM-X is a window based product designed to run on engineering workstations under the X Window System. The graphical interface makes operation of FEM-X intuitive, with on-line help available at each stage. Discussions of CADDB, the database system used for FEM-X, and its query software, ICE, are also provided.

Stand types (e.g., plantations derived from seedlings or from clonally generated materials) can be compared in terms of average total merchantable volume of timber per acre at time of harvest and/or by average proportions of surviving trees. Average stand yields in the presence of beetles can also be compared with those when beetles are absent, thus providing a basis for estimating the real cost of beetle damage in loblolly stands. In this Documentation we briefly describe the model, then outline the concepts and structure upon which the SPBLOB simulation source code is based. The included User Guides specify the input information regarding a loblolly stand and its environment required to run two executable Simulation Codes --

The problem addressed by this report is that the Air Force is not getting full value for the resources expended in the development of finite element models of USAF aircraft structures, both directly and by contractors. Models developed by airframe contractors are usually not made available to the Air Force. Models that are available are often inadequately documented or verified, or their existence may be unknown to those who need them. The problem was assessed by a survey of Air Force organizations and was attacked in three ways. First, software called FEM-X was developed for storage and retrieval of finite element model data along with descriptive information about the data. The software could be used by an Air Force Finite Element Model Center. A proposal for establishment of this Center is the second aspect of modification, and distribution of aircraft models. The third subject addressed by the report is a Mil Standard that is proposed for delivery of finite element models by Air Force contractors.

This book brings into focus the personal and social costs of narcolepsy and discusses the often enormous impact that narcolepsy can have on a person’s self-esteem and quality of life.Typically it takes about fifteen years for a person to be accurately diagnosed as having narcolepsy. Psychosocial Aspects of Narcolepsy is an aid to help caregivers and healthcare providers screen individuals with symptoms of daytime sleepiness and refer them promptly to appropriate professionals for diagnosis and help. The book helps these professionals find the most effective treatment methods and coping strategies for their patients who suffer from symptoms such as excessive daytime sleepiness, cataplexy, and hypnagogic hallucinations. Informative chapters address a wide variety of pertinent issues, including: differential diagnosis and treatment of narcolepsy the special needs of persons with narcolepsy a sociomedical model for a narcolepsy counseling service the psychosocial impact of narcolepsy on the individual and the family sociodemographic variables in narcolepsy the quality of life of persons with narcolepsy the diagnosis, treatment, and psychosocial consequences of sleep apnea the legal aspects of narcolepsy narcolepsy’s profound impact on childrenThis vital resource enables physicians and other health professionals to give optimum, comprehensive care to individuals suffering from narcolepsy.
