Lung cancer is still a major cause of death globally, but the development of personalized, precision medicine has had a marked effect on treatment management and improved clinical outcomes, particularly for those with advanced stage non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). EGFR mutations are the third most common mutation found in patients with advanced stage NSCLC. Despite an overall decrease in tobacco use, lung cancer (80–85% of which is non-small-cell lung cancer [NSCLC]) is still the leading cause of cancer death in both men and women worldwide. Technologies collectively called omics enable simultaneous measurement of an enormous number of biomolecules; for example, genomics investigates thousands of DNA sequences, and proteomics examines large numbers of proteins.
