Excerpt from Fanciers' Gazette, Vol. 4: January, 1887 The American Poultry Association does not rule by Divine right. Its authority rests solely in the consent of breeders of the whole country. It is thus recognized, and justly so, as the pioneer and guide to the general poul try industry of this country. If this position is to be maintained, this Association must, by its conduct, continue to command the appro val of breeders and their consent to follow its lead. No narrow spinal must ever influence its courses or its actions. It must grow with. The growth of the national poultry industry. Its authority is neither Divine nor does it rest in its copyright. It has no power to make or to unmake breeds. Its sole prominence is to recognize breeds established in distinctive points and popular favor. So far it means approval. This approval, with the-power it gives, will be forfeited whenever this associa tion fails to keep pace with the spirit of rapid progress which now characterizes the poultry industry over our whole country, and refuses reasonable demand for recognition of any new breed of established and known merit and favor. To maintain its justly earned position, the Association should also give attention to the question of breeds adapted to different sec tions, climates, countries, size, etc. It should favor the fancier and the poulterer, the North, the South, the East and the West, the village and the farm, the home and poultry as a busi ness, the practical and the ornamental. Excerpt from Fancier's Gazette, 1904, Vol. 22 The highest prices generally secure the best goods or commodities, and it should apply with equal force in the poultry business. To be a successful breeder, good prices must be obtained at the same time the purchaser must be satisfied that he has received what he paid for. Poultrymen can secure good prices and be honest and square in their deal. Only the charlatan and trickster will do up his patrons.
