"Falconi's Tractor is not a farming story. It's the story of an Italian family living over their once prosperous, now shuttered farm equipment showroom on Spadina Ave. near College. When "The Incident" happened in 1984, nineteen-year-old Carmelo Falconi Jr., a.k.a. "Small Carm," had to take charge of his three younger siblings. Although The Incident has shaped the four Falconi children, the truth about that day threatens to rip their world apart twenty-three years later."--

To the tractor lover, there is something magical about the tractor in the pasture. It represents wisdom, strength, and former glory as the plower of soil, tender of crops, and the backbone of the nation. Much like the aging racehorse or the prize bull, after its working days are done, old tractors find resting spots on the edges of fields, alongside barns, or in the hedgerows. Today, these rusting piles of iron not only represent the memories of nostalgic farmers (past or present), they represent possibilities of restoration, rejuvenation, and new life as sparkling representations of an age gone by. This book captures scenes of old, retired tractors and couples them with the very sentiments that makes restoration an increasingly popular at tractor hobby. Editor/Author/Photographer Lee Klancher coordinates farmers, tractor collectors, and restorers to compile 20 essays and colorful anecdotes ranging from tractor rescues to their feelings on what their tractors mean to them. A group of artistically photographed depictions of old, resigned or isolated, battered iron, each waiting its turn to be restored to a new life add to the extraordinary quality of this book.

David Pearson spent more than four decades working for Ford's tractor business, starting on the production line at the maker's Dagenham factory before moving to the Basildon tractor plant opened in 1964. He went on to become the maker's UK sales manager, and earned a reputation among farmers and dealers as the man who knew all there was to know about Ford tractors. Along the way, he was involved in the development of some of the most famous machines to bear the blue livery, from the Dexta to the 7000, and the FW articulated tractors to the 7810. Edited by agricultural journalist Martin Rickatson, Forty Years with Ford Tractors builds on a series of recollections which originally featured in Classic Tractor magazine, and includes additional material to tell David's fascinating story in full. It includes a comprehensive selection of black-and-white and colour photographs, many of which have never before been published and will be of interest to all Ford fans and tractor fans more generally.Front cover photograph: (c) Dave Franciosy / www.farmingphotography.co.uk
