If you highlight passages of Psalms in your Bible because they are especially meaningful to you in your Christian life, but you have several verses in each Psalm not highlighted, the difference is some verses fit the new covenant while other verses are old covenant. Jesus came not to destroy lives but to save lives. There are many wonderful examples for us in the Old Testament. We just have to remember a few things as we apply the various OT scriptures to our NT lives. Instead of calling for the wrath of God to come down on evil doers, we usually pray for their salvation, knowing that we, too, once sinned in many of the same ways, yet God spared us and had mercy on us. As we read the PSALMS, we will see faith building passages which fit the new covenant life in Christ, and in the same Psalm we might see an OT "prayer" asking God to take vengeance on the enemy. In this book, we have noted the OT passages with appropriate NT comments, alerting us to the new covenant which is now in effect through the blood paid by Jesus for sins. The Psalms are often wonderful prayers and faith building promises of God. David defined these as prayer when he said, "The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended." Psalm 72:20 ***** In this book: We have also defined key words used in the Psalms and many key verses are presented in RED for visual emphasis. (Color printing increased the cost of this book in paperback format.) If you look at Psalm 2 as we have printed it in this book, and compare it with your own paper Bible where you marked key passages, you will likely find we printed that in RED which you marked in your Bible. You felt the new covenant and recognized the great benefit of these portions of Psalms just as we have done in compiling this book.
