This report presents statistical information pertaining to the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Airspace System, Airports, Airport Activity, U.S. Civil Air Carrier Fleet, U.S. Civil Air Carrier Operating Data, Airmen, General Aviation Aircraft, Aircraft Accidents, Aeronautical Production and Imports/Exports, and a Glossary of the terms used in this publication. This handbook is published annually by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Its prime purpose is to serve as a convenient source for historical data and to assist in evaluating progress. This edition contains data on major civil aviation activities for the period ending December 31, 1984. Chapter I deals with the FAA and its functions. This section also includes a comparison of the agency's appropriations from fiscal years 1981-1985, and the agency's personnel complement. National Airspace System data reflecting the fiscal and calendar year workload of the FAA air traffic facilities--terminal and en route--are contained in Chapter II. Selected statistics concerning the Nation's airport facilities are presented in Chapter III and IV by state within FAA regions. The U.S. civil air carrier fleet, as of December 31, 1984 is described in detail in Chapter V and VI and the airmen data is shown in Chapter VII. The general aviation aircraft data is presented in Chapter VIII. Aircraft accidents, both air carrier and general aviation, appear in Chapter IX.
