This book integrates those critical geologic aspects of reservoir formation and occurrence with engineering aspects of reservoirs, and presents a comprehensive treatment of the geometry, porosity and permeability evolution, and producing characteristics of carbonate reservoirs. The three major themes discussed are: & bull; the geometry of carbonate reservoirs and relationship to original depositional facies distributions & bull; the origin and types of porosity and permeability systems in carbonate reservoirs and their relationship to post-depositional diagenesis & bull; the relationship between depositional and diagenetic facies and producing characteristics of carbonate reservoirs, and the synergistic geologic-engineering approach to the exploitation of carbonate reservoirs. The intention of the volume is to fully aquaint professional petroleum geologists and engineers with an integrated geologic and engineering approach to the subject. As such, it presents a unique critical appraisal of the complex parameters that affect the recovery of hydrocarbon resources from carbonate rocks. The book may also be used as a text in petroleum geology and engineering courses at the advanced undergraduate and graduate levels.

This, the 30th edition of the "United States Government Printing Office Style Manual," is the first revision to this authoritative style manual since 2002. The "GPO Style Manual, as it is popularly known, is issued under the authority of section 1105 of Title 44 U.S.C., which requires the Public Printer, as head of the GPO to "dtermine the form and style in which the printing...ordered by a department is executed...having proper reagrd to economy, workmanship, and the purposes for which the work is needed." The Manual is prepared by the GPO Style Board, composed of proofreading, printing, and Government documents specialists from within GPO, where all congressional publications, and many other key Federal Government documents are prepared. The first "GPO Style Manual" appeared in 1894. It was developed orginally as a printer's stylebook to standardize word and type treatment and remains so today. Through successived editions, however, the "GPO Style Manual" has come to be widely recognized by writers and editors both within and outside the Federal Government as one of the most useful resources in the editorial arsenal. This new, revised version of the "GPO Style Manual" has been thoroughly redesigned to make it more modern and easier to read, and the content has been updated generally throughout in keeping with current usage.

These nine essays explore new directions and ways to pursue the elusive Jack Tar--the common sailor in the early modern world. We see him as a pirate, learn something of the ships he sailed, and share his experience in the Revolutionary War and War of 1812. We also see him as a spinner of yarns--a great story teller--helping to mold his own and our national identity, while contributing to the development of a unique American literature. We see some Jacks seeking social mobility. We see others challenging authority aboard ships and during shipwrecks. While Jack in some ways remains elusive, and it is impossible to calculate his movements, as sailor Nathaniel Ames wrote, these essays move us closer to an understanding of his eccentric path.
