A.A. Co-founder Dr. Bob stated he had had "excellent training" in the Bible as a youngster in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. This title is a guide to that training and to the multi-volume resource compendium that describes the major influences on his training. They include the Town of St. Johnsbury, the Congregational Churches, his own church--the North Congregational Church, Sunday School, Christian Endeavor Society, the enormous impact of the Fairbanks family on the community and church and educational system, Dr. Bob's own deep family involvement in the church and town activities, the St. Johnsbury Academy, the town library (Athenaeum) and Fairbanks Museum, the YMCA, and the Great Awakening of 1875 that brought revivals, Gospel meetings, conversions, prayer, and Bible study to the fore.

This is a collective study of philosophical questions to do with experts and expertise, such as: What is an expert? Who decides who the experts are? Should we always defer to experts? How should expertise inform public policy? What happens when the experts disagree? Must experts be unbiased? Does it matter what the source of the expertise is?

One of the earliest and most valuable discoveries by author Dick B. in his search for the facts about the early A.A. program, which had such great successes, was the many, varied, and important Christian and other books read, studied, and circulated by A.A. Cofounder Dr. Bob among early AAs and their families. These are of great importance and utility today if you are to be healed of alcoholism. They cover the Bible, Jesus Christ, prayer, healing, alcoholism, daily devotions, Quiet Time, the Oxford Group, Rev. Samuel M. Shoemaker, conversion, and other relevant religious topics. Dick discovered the books in the homes of Dr. Bob's children, read and analyzed and categorized them, and placed them in this title. Other books were mentioned elsewhere as having been read and circulated by Dr. Bob, and are included.

Children Learn by Observing and Contributing to Family and Community Endeavors, the latest in the Advances in Child Development and Behavior Series provides a major step forward in highlighting patterns and variability in the normative development of the everyday lives of children, expanding beyond the usual research populations that have extensive Western schooling in common. The book documents the organization of children's learning and social lives, especially among children whose families have historical roots in the Americas (North, Central, and South), where children traditionally are included and contribute to the activities of their families and communities, and where Western schooling is a recent foreign influence. The findings and theoretical arguments highlight a coherent picture of the importance of the development of children's participation in ongoing activity as presented by authors with extensive experience living and working in such communities. - Contains contributions from leading authorities in the field of child development and behavior - Presents a coherent picture of the importance of the development of children's participation in ongoing activity - Provides a major step forward in highlighting patterns and variability in the normative development of the everyday lives of children, expanding beyond the usual research populations that have extensive Western schooling in common - Informs and updates on all the latest developments in the field

This book focuses on the interrelationship of social, technical, and organizational aspects of and related to the product development process. It originated from activities in practice in industry and research laboratories. In order to ensure relative autonomy from the short-term economic interests of a given industrial branch or specific company, the research for this work was first conducted in pursuit of a PhD thesis intended to provide practice-oriented results. With the ansatz practice – theory – practice, a generalizable approach was achieved. It then evolved to cover additional issues brought forth by recent cases in the aerospace industry, among others. A combination of scientific methodologies is used to focus on the psychological factors that influence the quality of technical product development processes. The basic framework is provided by the grounded theory—a qualitative approach, in which data was not only collected by this author but is extended to cases from the history of technology described in the published literature. The inclusion of historical cases is possible, thanks to the availability of sufficiently detailed descriptions for examination in terms of the grounded theory principles. They appear in the Appendix. Cases cited were verified by comparing them with contrasting viewpoints from various sources. I was able to examine and complement some cases by contacting persons associated with the programs analyzed. Quantitative studies are also integrated in this research to verify the elements resulting from the grounded theory integration.
