Published in 1998, the main aim of this book is to use a naturalistic, evolutionary approach to solve some of the most important problems in philosophy. The first two problems come from the philosophy of science: the problem of rationality of science and the problem of truth in science. In presenting the first problem, the author argues that the views of Kuhn and Feyerabend do create a very serious challenge to traditional epistemology, however, if the assumption of individual rationality is abandoned in favour of the author's social concept of rationality, a committed naturalism can account for science as a rational activity. In tackling the second problem of truth, the author shows that a committed evolutionary philosophy does not support realism but leads instead to a thorough evolutionary relativism of scientific knowledge. It is nevertheless possible to use this evolutionary relativism to construct a theory of relative truth. The issue of whether science discovers truth has also been tied to absolutism, that a well formulated theory of relative truth is likely to bring about a profound transformation of the way we think about the field. The author explores the notion of relative truth in the philosophy of science, ethics and aesthetics.

What Happens in Jamaica, Stays in Jamaica? Except in this tell-all, cheeky guide to the world's naughtiest resort, Hedonism II. Everyone returns from Hedonism II with at least one good story no one at home believes. Is Hedonism II a retirement home for worn-out swingers? Is it a testosterone tour-de-force with too few eligible single women to clamor over? Is it a cult that sucks away all your vacation time? Well, the last one might be true. Learn why Hedonism II has a 90% repeat guest rate--even though the facilities are tired, the food is mediocre, and the beach sand hurts your feet--if you are still standing after a week. The Hedo myths: Only young singles go to Hedonism II. People walk around naked everywhere. Open sex is rampant. Someone will try to steal your wife. Every myth has its truth...but Hedonism II is 50% couples--and most guests are over 30, full nudity is only allowed on one beach, the hotel does not condone public sex (but it happens), and your wife--well, that's her choice. But at Hedo you will see what you've never seen before. And you might do it too. Here are the truths and tips that will make your vacation to Hedonism II the most fun trip you'll ever take--again and again. FYI: The resort Hedonism II did not authorize this book; the book includes the good, bad, and the ugly. Although the resort's owners tried to stop distribution of the 1st ed. of the book in federal court in 1998, the author enjoys Hedonism II as a vacation destination and continues to travel there regularly.

To what extent does cultural diversity affect the activity and the products of philosophizing? Can there be convergence of worldviews and conceptual frameworks across cultural boundaries? Can there be mutual understanding across them in spite of diversity? To what extent are the philosophies and worldviews developed in North and Latin America diverse? These and other questions prompted by the recent upsurge of relativism are tackled in original essays by philosophers and social scientists from North and Latin America.

The surprisingly hopeful story of how a straight, nonpromiscuous, everyday girl contracted HIV and how she manages to stay upbeat, inspired, and more positive about life than ever before At nineteen years of age, Marvelyn Brown was lying in a stark white hospital bed at Tennessee Christian Medical Center, feeling hopeless. A former top track and basketball athlete, she was in the best shape of her life, but she was battling a sudden illness in the intensive care unit. Doctors had no idea what was going on. It never occurred to Brown that she might be HIV positive. Having unprotected sex with her Prince Charming had set into swift motion a set of circumstances that not only landed her in the fight of her life, but also alienated her from her community. Rather than give up, however, Brown found a reason to fight and a reason to live. The Naked Truth is an inspirational memoir that shares how an everyday teen refused to give up on herself, even as others would forsake her. More, it's a cautionary tale that every parent, guidance counselor, and young adult should read.

This book is for anyone with sincere doubts that their ancestor, to the 10020 degree, was a guppy. "DUDE, YOU’RE NUDE!" offers a thought-provoking and entertaining journey. Using "The Emperor's New Clothes" as a playful backdrop, this book dives into the heart of Darwinian debates with humor and incisive critique. Authored by a former aspiring marine biologist turned courtroom advocate, this narrative peels back the layers of scientific consensus to expose the unanswered questions beneath. With sharp wit, logic, and a dose of sarcasm, the author navigates from dinner table disputes to the core of scientific truths, dismantling the pillars of Darwinian evolution with clarity and simplicity. Drawing a parallel between the classic tale of The Emperor's New Clothes and the contemporary blind acceptance of Darwin's theory of evolution, the book presents a comedic yet provocative critique of the unwavering allegiance to Darwin’s theory of evolution and is a call to action challenging readers to boldly own the right to question and explore when faced with the current disturbing trend in education which shifted from encouraging inquiry to enforcing blind conformity. Whether you're a staunch believer in evolution or harboring doubts, "DUDE, YOU’RE NUDE!" promises a provocative and enlightening exploration. Embracing controversy, it dives headfirst into the tempest of scientific dogma, guided by common sense and everyday observations. Prepare for an intellectual awakening, a challenge to your convictions, and a spark to your natural curiosity. Join this audacious quest for truth, where the only thing more evident than the evidence is the stark nakedness of unchallenged scientific claims.

This butt-naked memoir tells the story of a young man who 'trottered' across the globe - from Belgium to Australia, Vanuatu to Canada, Thailand to Nepal - to escape his toxic upper-class family and discover the freedom he needed to find his true sexual, spiritual, and emotional identity. It is the story of how one man learned to create the fertile soil of his growth from the paralysing fear that can turn generation after generation of families into emotional wastelands. Written with humour and a healthy dose of self-awareness, the book is filled with astonishing anecdotes and encounters ranging from horrific to hilarious and from devastating to uplifting and enriching. It is a must-read for anyone who feels lonely miscomprehended and trapped by the expectations of family, friends and society, as well as for those seeking their own path through life or struggling with their sexuality. It is a manifest against the stigmatisation of gay people which is still taking place today. Sexuality does not define everyone. A practical book, it also provides tools and tips on how to hear the voice of your true self and break free of the prisons we find ourselves in. This book is also a must read for people who believe being 'on the road' is their one and only home. Harry Trotter's The Naked Truth is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, and a reminder that it's never too late to begin the healing that allows us to discover and live our truth. It reminds us to just be ourselves - without putting a label on it. Harry Trotter is a mentor and an award-winning professional speaker who is better known as the Sexuality Cycle Breaker. His mission is to support as many people to break their cycles in terms of identity, sexuality, pressure and confidence so that they can live their truth.

"In the popular imagination, turn-of-the-century Vienna is a cerebral place, marked by Freud, the discovery of the unconscious, and the advent of high modernist culture. But as historian Alys George argues, this stereotype of Viennese Modernism as essentially "heady" overlooks a rich cultural history of the body in the period. Spanning 1870 to 1930, The Naked Truth is an interdisciplinary tour de force that recasts the visual, literary, and performative cultures of the era and offers an alternative genealogy of this fascinating moment in the history of the West. Starting with the Second Vienna Medical School and its innovations in anatomy and pathology, George traces an emerging culture of bodily knowledge by analyzing a variety of written and visual media, including theater and dance, and by drawing connections between scientific and artistic discourses. Paying equal attention to both low and high culture, bringing gender and class issues back to the fore, and highlighting the role of female thinkers and writers, George's book makes a signal contribution to our understanding of late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Viennese and European culture. The Naked Truth shows us that the "inward turn" cannot be understood until it is set against the backdrop of a culture obsessed with exploring and displaying humanity in its embodied, carnal form"--
