During 2014, Authorhouse published two of my books, Vignettes of Yvette at Vi and More Vignettes of Yvette at Vi. This new book contains even more vignettes of my wife, Yvette, and those words provide its title. Yvette is in a memory support unit at the care center that is attached to a large and elegant retirement home called Vi at Palo Alto. These vignettes are meant to demonstrate that a new life can be created for dementia sufferers-a life that is interesting and enjoyable, contains much beauty, and presents challenges that can make this new life meaningful. Carmen, Marcela, the nursing staff, and I have worked hard and long to achieve these goals for Yvette, and we have had some measure of success. Carmen and I especially have not accepted the oft-given advice to "just make her comfortable" for the very beautiful woman we love so dearly.

Authorhouse, in the past year, published three of my books about my wife, Yvette, who was in a memory support unit at a care center that is affiliated with a large, luxury retirement home named Vi at Palo Alto. Yvette was there, with dementia, for almost three years, until her death in December 2014. My previous three books about Yvette recorded how Carmen (her superb caregiver), I, and others gave her a new life that was interesting, challenging, full of beauty, and fashioned to keep her as healthy (mentally and physically) as our abilities and efforts allowed. This book continues our story by looking at the final six months of Yvette's life. It was during this period of terrible stress and duress that my wife displayed more courage, cheerfulness, and beauty than any of us believed possible. She even died in serenity and with beauty.

This is a true story of how John felt and reacted to the decline of his wife, Yvette, into the quicksands of dementia. The story relates how he, Carmen (the companion to Yvette), and others struggled, sometimes against wise counsel, to prevent Yvette from sliding downhill mentally and physically. Their love for Yvette gave them the incentive and the energy to fight against the odds and to achieve some positive results. Really though, this is a love story of a husband for his wife together for sixty-nine years.

Bringing together prominent scholars in the field, this Handbook provides an interdisciplinary exploration of the complex interrelationship between migration and welfare. Chapters further examine the effects of emigration on sending societies exploring issues such as the impact of remittances, diasporas, and skill deterioration as a result of human capital flight on capacity building and on economic and political development more generally.

*Winner of the European Union Prize for Literature. There is a liveliness and effervescence to Jana Benová’s prose that is magnetic. Whether addressing the loneliness of relationships or the effectiveness of rat poison, her voice and observations call to mind the verve and sophistication of Renata Adler or Jenny Offill, while remaining utterly singular. Seeing People Off follows Elza and Ian, a young couple living in a humongous apartment complex outside Bratislava where the walls play music and talk, and time is immaterial. Drawing on her memories, everyday interactions, observations of post-socialist realities, and Elza’s attraction to actor, Kalisto Tanzi, Seeing People Off is a kaleidoscopic, poetic, and deeply funny portrait of a relationship.
