If you need to build a scalable, fault tolerant system with requirements for high availability, discover why the Erlang/OTP platform stands out for the breadth, depth, and consistency of its features. This hands-on guide demonstrates how to use the Erlang programming language and its OTP framework of reusable libraries, tools, and design principles to develop complex commercial-grade systems that simply cannot fail. In the first part of the book, you’ll learn how to design and implement process behaviors and supervision trees with Erlang/OTP, and bundle them into standalone nodes. The second part addresses reliability, scalability, and high availability in your overall system design. If you’re familiar with Erlang, this book will help you understand the design choices and trade-offs necessary to keep your system running. Explore OTP’s building blocks: the Erlang language, tools and libraries collection, and its abstract principles and design rules Dive into the fundamentals of OTP reusable frameworks: the Erlang process structures OTP uses for behaviors Understand how OTP behaviors support client-server structures, finite state machine patterns, event handling, and runtime/code integration Write your own behaviors and special processes Use OTP’s tools, techniques, and architectures to handle deployment, monitoring, and operations

This volume presents the revised lecture notes of selected talks given at the second Central European Functional Programming School, CEFP 2007, held June 23–30, 2007 at Babe ̧ s-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The summer school was organized in the spirit of the advanced progr- ming schools. CEFP focuses on involving an ever-growing number of students, researchers, andteachersfromcentral, andeasternEuropeancountries. We were glad to welcome the invited lecturers and the participants: 15 professors and 30 students from 9 di?erent universities. The intensive program o?ered a creative and inspiring environment and a great opportunity to present and exchange ideas in new topics of functional programming. The lectures covereda wide range of topics like interactive work ?ows for the Web, proving properties of lazy functional programs, lambda calculus and - stract lambda calculus machines, programming in ? mega, object-oriented fu- tional programming, and refactoring in Erlang. We are very grateful to the lecturers and researchers for the time and the e?ort they devoted to the talks and the revised lecture notes. The lecture notes were each carefully checked by reviewers selected from experts of functional programming. Afterwards the papers were revised once more by the lecturers. This revision process guaranteed that only high-quality papers are accepted in the volume of the lecture notes.

The field of agent and multi-agent systems is concerned with the development and evaluation of sophisticated, AI-based, problem solving and control architectures for both single and multi-agent systems. This book presents the proceedings of the 7th KES Conference on Agent and Multi-agent Systems – Technologies and Applications (KES-AMSTA 2013), held in Hue City, Vietnam, in May 2013. The KES-AMSTA 2013 conference provides an internationally respected forum for scientific research in the technologies and applications of agent and multi-agent systems. In all, 44 papers were selected for oral presentation and publication in this volume. Special attention is paid to the feature topics of intelligent technologies and applications in the area of e-health, social networking, self-organizing systems, economics and trust management. Other topics covered include: agent oriented software engineering; beliefs engineering; desires and intentions representation; agent cooperation, coordination, negotiation, organization and communication; distributed problem-solving; specification of agent communication languages; formalization of ontologies; and conversational agents. The book highlights new trends and challenges in agent and multi-agent research, and will be of interest to the research community working in the fields of artificial intelligence, collective computational intelligence, robotics, dialogue systems and, in particular, agent and multi-agent systems, technologies and applications.

A Message from the TAIC PART 2010 General Chair TAIC PART is a unique event that strives to combine aspects of a conference, a workshop and a retreat. Its purpose is to bring together industrialists and academics in an environment that promotes fundamental collaborationon pr- lems in software testing. Among the wide range of topics in computer science andsoftwareengineering, softwaretesting is anidealcandidatefor academicand industrialcollaborationbecauseadvancesinresearchcanhavesuchwide-ranging and far-reaching implications for industry. Conversely, the advances in comp- ing and communications technology and the growth of the associated software engineering activity are producing new researchchallengesat an increasing rate. The problems that arise in software testing are related to the problems that ariseinmanyotherareasofcomputing.Assuch, testingresearchcombinesawide range of elements encompassing the theoretical work of program analysis and formal methods and the associated representations such as ?nite-state machines and dependence graphs. The inherent complexity of software testing has led to the involvement of heuristic methods. Software testing is also a human activity and has thus seen the involvement of psychology, sociologyand even philosophy. This astonishing breadth and depth have made the problems of software testing appealing to academics for several decades.
