EPS - High Energy Physics '89 presents the proceeding of the International Europhysics Conference on High Energy physics, held in Madrid, Spain, on September 6–13, 1989. This book outlines several topics on the interface between cosmology/astrophysics and particle physics. Organized into two parts encompassing 181 chapters, this compilation of papers begins with an overview of the implications of the cosmic light element abundances. This text then examines the various aspects of lattice field theory. Other chapters consider the theoretical evidence of a fundamental length in string theory and outline the main features of the higher order corrections to the heavy quark inclusive cross section. This book discusses as well the theory of heavy quark production in hadron collision. The final chapter deals with the idea of low-energy supersymmetry, which relates the scale of supersymmetry breaking to the origin and stability of the electroweak scale. This book is a valuable resource for astrophysicists, physicists, and scientists.

th This volume contains the written versions of invited lectures presented at the 28 "Internationale Universitatswochen fUr Kernphysik" in Schladming, Austria in March 1989. The generous support of our sponsors, the Austrian Ministry of Science and Research, the Government of Styria, and others, made it again possible to invite expert lecturers. The courses were centered on elementary particle physics to be performed with large accelerators accessible in the immediate future, including some reports on the current situation. Thanks to the efforts of the speakers it was possible to obtain excellent surveys. After the School the lecture notes were revised and partially rewritten in TPC by the authors, whom we thank for their labour. Unfortunately the report on the situation at SLAC by M. Swartz could not be included. Thanks are also due to the publishers for their patience. Graz, Austria H. Latal December 1989 H. Recent Advances in Field Theory presents the proceedings of the Fourth Annecy Meeting on Theoretical Physics, held in Annecy-le-Vieux, France, on March 5–9, 1990. This book presents several relevant developments on the subject, including quantum algebra, two-dimensional quantum gravity, and topological quantum theories. Organized into 29 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the Hamiltonian quantization of the topological Chern–Simons theory. This text then examines the conformal affine Liouville model. Other chapters consider the global analyticity properties of functions correlated with causal kernels on de Sitter space. This book discusses as well the three particle models in terms of noncommutative gauge theory, namely, the Peccei-Quinn model, the Glashow–Weinberg–Salam model, and the standard model. The final chapter deals with the development on the construction of lattice integrable models corresponding to the SU (N) coset conformal field theories. This book is a valuable resource for physicists and scientists.

The M.A.B. BÉG MEMORIAL VOLUME is based on scientific articles written in honor of the late Mirza Abdul Baqi Bég, a professor of physics at the Rockefeller University, New York. The contributed articles are partly based on talks given at the school on high energy physics and cosmology, held March 11 - 25, 1990 at the Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan, and partly on articles contributed by his colleagues and collaborators.Being a scientific tribute to Bég, the articles reflect the specific areas of his scientific research and the contemporary trends and open questions in elementary particle physics. Deciphering the mechanism of symmetry breaking with the help of known properties of elementary particles - their masses and couplings — and devising new experimental tests to find clues to the actual physical phenomena at work, are the recurring themes in this book. The role of higher symmetries, formulated in terms of the string and grand unified theories, likewise is elucidated in several articles. The book also contains one of the last articles authored by Bég, written in honor of Luigi Radicati, describing a scientific history of the crucial development from the quark model to the standard model which took place in the sixties.
