Annotation Since the 1960s, American and Canadian fisheries have been introducing salmonines such as rainbow trout and chinook and coho salmon to the Great Lakes in order to develop new recreational fisheries. In this study, Crawford (ichthyology, U. of Guelph) examines the effects of non-native fish populations on the Great Lakes ecosystem. He contends that the ongoing introduction of non-native salmonines poses an ecologically- significant risk and that the practice should be terminated. The volume is not indexed. Excerpt from Bureau of Entomology and Plant Quarantine News Letter for November 1936, Vol. 4 Fewer flies trapped than last year.-throughout November, weather conditions in the lower Rio Grande Valley have been ideal for field work and the harvesting of fruit. Inspectors have been able to make more than the customary number of grove inspections and reports indicate that almost 100 percent of the groves are in excellent sanitary condition. Fruit ship ments to the end pf November total approximately equivalent car loads. Three carloads have moved by water to eastern.markets. Trapping records indicate that the adult fly population is considerably below that of last season. Only 5 Anastrepha ludens Loew. Have been taken so far this year, while for the same period last season 34 had been trapped. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Concerns about global biodiversity are rising dramatically, yet we are lagging behind in the most basic prerequisite for its understanding and conservation: the inventory. Insect species may make up five or ten times the number of all other plant and animal species combined, and as such they represent one of the major challenges in biosystematic science. World Catalogue of Insects is an initiative aiming at compiling worldscale, authoritative catalogues of monophyletic insect taxa. We are therefore proud to launch this major series. Volumes will as a minimum contain standard nomenclatoral information on all names pertaining to the taxon treated, including type locality and distribution to the extent this is relevant. Additional information is optional, e. g., location, status and condition of types; biology; bibliographical information; pest status; vector status; etc. This volume three focuses on Dytiscidae (Coleoptera).
