This book seeks to develop a model to train church and community leaders to become vehicles of empowerment, recovery, and restoration for victims/survivors of domestic abuse. The problem was the church's lack of care and support for women who suffer from the effects of domestic abuse. The hypothesis was when church memberships become instruments of healing, and domestic abuse survivors will be willing to seek refuge in the church. This project was tested using a mixed-method approach from observations, Bible study, a workshop, and pre- and post-test. The desired outcome is having the women leave this experience empowered with voices to address their abuses in a socio-religious context.

Rethinking Empowerment looks at the changing role of women in developing countries and calls for a new approach to empowerment. An approach that adopts a more nuanced, feminist interpretation of power and em(power)ment, recognises that local empowerment is always embedded in regional, national and global contexts, pays attention to institutional structures and politics and acknowledges that empowerment is both a process and an outcome. Moreover, the book warns that an obsession with measurement rather than process can undermine efforts to foster transformative and empowering outcomes. It concludes that power must be restored as the centrepiece of empowerment. Only then will the term and its advocates provide meaningful ammunition for dealing with the challenges of an increasingly unequal, and often sexist, global/local world.

Domestic violence is the silent crime. Thousands of women suffer in silence as they are emotionally, physically, spiritually and sexually abused. Silence can be deadly! Domestic violence was foreign to me. Although I was loved and protected by my parents, others rejected me. Fear of being rejected caused me to compromise who I was. Blindly, I married the man who not only abused me but abused his first wife. I knew about it, but knew he wouldn't do that to me. It happened! Years later I found myself being kicked out of my home, moving to a new state to start a new life! This journey has taken me from spiritual death to abundant life in Christ and out of survival mode to being filled with power to break the chains that bound me. Share my story of false love, real love, isolation and abuse. "Danita Harris is an anointed writer who delivers an emotional, powerful and personal story on overcoming domestic violence. The message in her book will whisper to your heart and minister to abused and broken women souls." - Tonya Blount, award-wining author, domestic violence advocate and talk show host

In the end she is empowered to finally get free and to heal. Praise for You Dont have to be a Wimp to be Abused (for Women) Wallin crafts a brilliant, insightful work. Readers will learn practical ways to deal with their issues. You wont be able to put this book down even if you dont identify with Jane. The Quick Reference Guide really nails the issues. ~ Marlene Worrell, novelist and screenwriter; latest release is Angel in Shining Armor. Very interesting and informative. I like the idea of using a fictional character narrative to explore the various issues surrounding domestic abuse. The technique works well and is preferable to the more traditional methods. ~ Laurence French
