The purpose of this guide is to help employers understand their legal obligations regarding the duty to accommodate, and to create their own workplace accommodation policies and procedures. Employers will then be in a better position to provide an inclusive workplace and to minimize the likelihood of complaints of discrimination. The guide sets out the elements of a model policy on workplace accommodation; explains how to set up a procedure for analyzing employer programs and activities in order to ascertain if a program or activity will give rise to discriminatory barriers; describes a procedure for responding to requests from a specific employee for individual accommodation. The appendices outline key court decisions and include suggested forms and a list of useful resources.
