Polymers in Organic Electronics: Polymer Selection for Electronic, Mechatronic, and Optoelectronic Systems provides readers with vital data, guidelines, and techniques for optimally designing organic electronic systems using novel polymers. The book classifies polymer families, types, complexes, composites, nanocomposites, compounds, and small molecules while also providing an introduction to the fundamental principles of polymers and electronics. Features information on concepts and optimized types of electronics and a classification system of electronic polymers, including piezoelectric and pyroelectric, optoelectronic, mechatronic, organic electronic complexes, and more. The book is designed to help readers select the optimized material for structuring their organic electronic system.Chapters discuss the most common properties of electronic polymers, methods of optimization, and polymeric-structured printed circuit boards. The polymeric structures of optoelectronics and photonics are covered and the book concludes with a chapter emphasizing the importance of polymeric structures for packaging of electronic devices. - Provides key identifying details on a range of polymers, micro-polymers, nano-polymers, resins, hydrocarbons, and oligomers - Covers the most common electrical, electronic, and optical properties of electronic polymers - Describes the underlying theories on the mechanics of polymer conductivity - Discusses polymeric structured printed circuit boards, including their rapid prototyping and optimizing their polymeric structures - Shows optimization methods for both polymeric structures of organic active electronic components and organic passive electronic components

Contains the contents of two symposia, both held in November 2001: the first part of the volume presents Symposium EE, "Electroactive Polymers and Their Applications as Actuators, Sensors, and Artificial Muscles." These papers address electroactive and nonelectroactive polymers; models, analysis, and simulation of EAP behavior; methods of testing and characterization of EAP properties and performance; support technologies including control, design, and fabrication processes; and applications of EAP actuators. The second part, Symposium Q titled "Rapid Prototyping Technologies--From Tissue Engineering to Conformal Electronics" contains five sections with papers addressing direct writing electronic components; rapid prototyping sensors and structures; energy storage and modeling; liquid and dispensing deposition; and tissue engineering. Polymer interfaces are critical for many technological and industrial applications in thin films including microelectronics, packaging, automotive coatings and sensors. The structure and architecture of interfaces in thin films and bulk polymeric systems can be exceedingly complex. In thin films, the technological drive to diminish film thickness while simultaneously enhancing homogeneity, stability and adhesion, is a demanding challenge driving research in newer areas of nanofilled and controlled nanostructured and nanopatterned materials. Tailoring surface and interfacial properties is equally important for new developments in the traditional fields of bulk polymer blends, adhesion and wetting. There is a need to develop an understanding of interfacial phenomena with the ultimate goal of establishing structure-property relationships with quantitative predictive capabilities and this book discusses these challenges. Topics include: block copolymer films; theory, simulations and dynamics; polymer interfaces and thin films; adhesion and mechanical properties; self-assembly by polymeric films; self-assembly and electronic properties; lithographic, electronic properties; and nanoparticulate-filled films.
