Just like many Christians around the world, Bishop Wellington Williams is challenged to broaden his understanding and experience a deeper appreciation for the Creator. As a passionate student of the word of God, he understands that sometimes, despite our best efforts, it is easy to become sidetracked as a disciple of Christ Jesus. In an inspirational guide shared to restore confidence, spiritual revitalization, and motivation to a dying church, Bishop Williams relies on scripture to offer insight into the four important dimensions that are essential for a smooth correlation between God and people as well as the existence of humankind on Earth: Listening, Observation, Processing, and Decision-making. While addressing the shortcomings of the church to lead its followers in the right direction through clarity, restoration, strength, and recovery, Bishop Williams reroutes the word of God to its original position in order to restore its purpose and gently remind Christians how simple it is to receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Don’t Count Me Out is a spiritual guide that relies on scripture to lead followers of Christ to the truth and breathe life back into a dying church.

Don't Count Me Out chronicles the life of Bruce White from the beginning of his drug use in elementary school through criminal acts fueled by his need for drugs, to his miraculous recovery three decades later and involvement in the treatment of addicts, where he is now a leader in the rehabilitation field. Rafael Alvarez's recounting of White's journey should inspire those dealing with the fallout of addiction. Alvarez, a journalist and screenwriter, allows the reader to get inside the head of an addict who was stealing alcohol from his parents at the age of nine, selling drugs and tripping on LSD and PCP by the time he hit seventh grade, and hooked on morphine before he turned fifteen. "Bruce White? I thought he was dead?" is a response encountered in many of the interviews Alvarez conducted. Don't Count Me Out shines a spotlight on an improbable and stunning miracle. Though this is just one person's story, the contributing factors of early sexual assault, the role of permissive preoccupied parents, and the need for peer approval, among others, will resonate with many as the opioid crisis continues to haunt us.

This book is about my many battles with cancer. I have had cancer six times and I am currently on chemo as maintenance for precaution measures. In addition to cancer, I have had other health issues over the years including two complete knee replacements. This book is also about my life and my children and grandchildren and family, but it is mostly to show people there is life after cancer and to never give up. I was born into humble beginnings in a little town called Bluff City, Virginia. I was one of six siblings. I had two brothers and three sisters. I was the next to last. We didnt have much growing up, but we had each other and a lot of love. I went to school in Narrows, Virginia and graduated in 1964. I met my husband, Roy, in 1967 and we were married a year later after his tour of duty in Vietnam. We had two boys, Randy and Rusty, and three grandchildren. I worked at a local factory for 37 years until my retirement in 2004. I have always loved to write. I have written many poems and stories, mostly for personal use. This is my first book, but I felt I had a story to tell and I hope it will encourage others who are either going through the same battle or who have been through it.

?Even though birds cannot speak in the strictest sense, we should stop, listen and take note of our winged friends. They (the birds) speak volumes to us?showing us our peculiarities, giving us warnings and inspiration. Isn?t that the stuff that sermons are made of??

This volume features in-depth, oral interviews with eleven incarcerated women, each of whom offers a narrative of her life and her reading experiences within prison walls. The women share powerful stories about their complex and diverse efforts to negotiate difficult relationships, exercise agency in restrictive circumstances, and find meaning and beauty in the midst of pain. Their shared emphases on abuse, poverty, addiction, and mental illness illuminate the pathways that lead many women to prison and suggest possibilities for addressing the profound social problems that fuel crime. Framing the narratives within an analytic introduction and reflective afterword, Megan Sweeney highlights the crucial intellectual work that the incarcerated women perform despite myriad restrictions on reading and education in U.S. prisons. These women use the limited reading materials available to them as sources of guidance and support and as tools for self-reflection and self-education. Through their creative engagements with books, the women learn to reframe their own life stories, situate their experiences in relation to broader social patterns, deepen their understanding of others, experiment with new ways of being, and maintain a sense of connection with their fellow citizens on both sides of the prison fence.
