Every October the Fordham Corporate Law Institute brings together leading figures from governmental organizations, leading international law firms and corporations and academia to examine and analyze the most important issues in international antitrust and trade policy of the United States, the EU and the world. This work is the most definitive and comprehensive annual analysis of international antitrust law and policy available anywhere. Each annual edition sets out to explore and analyze the areas of antitrust/competition law that have had the most impact in that year. Recent "hot topics" include antitrust enforcement in Asia, Latin America: competition enforcement in the areas of telecommunications, media and information technology. None of the chapters are merely descriptive, all raise questions of policy or discuss new developments and assess their significance and impact on antitrust and trade policy. All chapters, if necessary, are revised and updated before publication. As a result, the reader receives up-to-date practical tips and important analyses of difficult policy issues. The Annuals are an indispensable guide through the sea of international antitrust law. The Fordham Corporate Law Proceedings are acknowledged as simply the most definitive US/EC annual analyses of antitrust/competition law.

The 43 papers in this collection, originally published from 1972 to 1987 delve into accounting, observing and exploring its functioning. They construct a basis for interrogating it in use and indeed they attempt to account for accounting. The author seeks to understand accounting, to appreciate what it is, what it does and how it does it, examining it from without rather than from within.

Many employed men and women now hold self-employed, part-time or temporary jobs. Such jobs have been increasing since the 1970s. This book examines the implications for employers, individuals and households of this development. The lack of fringe benefits, job security and employment rights for these flexible jobs are described as well as the effects on the mental health of individuals. The view that flexible jobs are necessary for an efficient economy is questioned. Britain is relatively unique in Europe in promoting low-quality flexible jobs which fail to use the skills of its workforce.

'Work sharing' is a labour market instrument devised to distribute a reduced volume of work to the same (or similar) number of workers over a diminished period of working time in order to avoid redundancies. This fascinating and timely study presents the concept and history of work sharing and explores the complexities and trade-offs involved in its use as both a strategy for preserving jobs and a policy for increasing employment. The expert contributors examine the resurgence in the use of work sharing as a job preservation strategy via country case studies of work-sharing programmes implemented across the globe during the Great Recession of 20082009. These studies clearly illustrate that work sharing has been successful as a crisis-response measure in a number of countries. Lessons learned and their implications are presented alongside prescriptions on how to design permanent work-sharing policies that would provide appropriate incentives to generate positive effects for employment and promote a sustainable and job-rich economic recovery. This enlightening book will prove invaluable to academics, researchers, students and policymakers in the fields of labour economics, public sector economics and social policy.
