Excerpt from Cornell Alumni Directory: Containing the Foundation, History, and Government of the University, the Principal Alumni Organizations, a Directory of the Alumni Each of the four directories of Cornell University issued in the past have carried the title Ten Year Book. Editions were issued at regular intervals - in 1878, 1888, 1898, and 1908. The Ten Year Book was a complete record not only of Cornell alumni, but of undergraduates, and of all officers of administration and instruction since the founding of the University. This book, the Cornell Alumni Directory, the first to be issued since 1908, contains a list of all former students who have received Cornell degrees not later than February, 1922, and all non-graduates who matriculated not later than June, 1918. With the increased number of students, exigencies of space have prevented the inclusion of either the names of undergraduates or the names of officers of ad ministration and instruction. Every means have been employed to keep within bounds the size and weight of this book - thin paper, small type, narrow margins, and abbreviations in every case where the meaning would not be affected. It has been our aim to provide a volume of such reduced size and weight as would permit of its general use as a handbook of the Uni versity, to be carried on travels as a means of enabling alumni to keep in close touch with each other. It is the hope of the committee that the usefulness of this book will justify publication of revised lists at not infrequent intervals.
