This book is intended to provide medical radiography programs with an economical textbook that focuses on the practical aspects of digital radiography. In this new second edition by esteemed author Quinn B. Carroll and with content developed in close collaboration with the medical physics community and several reviewers, this is the most accurate information on digital imaging available. Terminology has been updated throughout the textbook to conform with the most recent revisions of the ASRT Radiography Curriculum Guide and the ARRT Radiography Content Specifications. Several new illustrations and helpful tables have been developed to clarify digital concepts. A new table, Operator Adjustments to Digital Image Qualities and Their Primary Controls, beautifully summarizes the effects of leveling, windowing, equalization, edge enhancement, smoothing and noise reduction, while related text reduces dozens of different manufacturers' terms to these basic operations in the table. Material on medical digital fluoroscopy and imaging informatics has been updated, with a continued emphasis on practical application and clinically useful information. Extensive support materials, including slides correlated to a student workbook, labs, comprehensive question banks and answer keys, have all been updated and improved.

This new edition of the Student Workbook is designed for in-classroom use and organized in a “fill-in-the-blank” format. The wording of each question corresponds with the lecture slide series Digital Radiography in Practice: Instructor PowerPoint Slides, 2nd Ed. and closely matches the progression of concepts in the textbook. The guiding philosophy is to provide immediate or short-term reinforcement of lecture and reading material by focusing on keywords. Thus, the Workbook should be used on a daily basis, not as a self-test or review after whole units have been covered. “In-class use” is the most recommended method for use with the Digital Radiography in Practice Instructor PowerPoint Slides, 2nd Ed. The Workbook and slides are designed to work in tandem with each other to actively engage the student in classroom learning. The instructor may elect to require this type of classroom and award points for completion of each unit. If the Workbook is used as a reinforcement tool for homework, it is strongly recommended that the student answer the corresponding questions after reading each major section of a chapter. If students wait until after completing an entire chapter, they may have trouble recalling the keywords elicited by each question and are more likely to confuse different concepts. Major unit subheadings are included in the Workbook to match the textbook. For the purposes of unit review, self-testing or preparation immediately prior to a test, “Chapter Review Questions” are provided at the end of each chapter in the textbook. Answer keys to these questions may be made available from your instructor. This Workbook is an invaluable teaching instrument that allows the student to concentrate on the lecture by doing minimal writing while still challenging the student to participate in classroom learning. An efficient “note-taking” tool, it is an important reinforcement tool for homework and individual study.

"This book is intended to provide medical radiography programs with an economical textbook that focuses on the practical aspects of digital radiography. Its scope is limited to information that will be pertinent to each graduating student as he or she enters into clinical practice. Nearly all textbooks to date claiming the title "digital radiography" have dealt primarily with the managerial aspects of the topic at the expense of any practical information on how digital imaging actually works and its clinical implications for the daily practice of radiography. In this textbook the focus is on digital topics and the facts stated with such brief explanatory material as each topic will allow. The goal of the author is to provide an accurate and adequate description of all the aspects of digital images and digital equipment, and their implications for radiographic technique and clinical application, but to do so in the most student-friendly way possible by providing crisp, clear illustrations along with readable text. Many digital topics are intimidating, and every attempt is made to reduce these topics to a descriptive, non-mathematical level that can be intuitively understood by the average student"--

This is the second edition of a well-received book that enriches the understanding of radiographers and radiologic technologists across the globe, and is designed to meet the needs of courses (units) on radiographic imaging equipment, procedures, production, and exposure. The book also serves as a supplement for courses that address digital imaging techniques, such as radiologic physics, radiographic equipment and quality control. In a broader sense, the purpose of the book is to meet readers’ needs in connection with the change from film-based imaging to film-less or digital imaging; today, all radiographic imaging worldwide is based on digital imaging technologies. The book covers a wide range of topics to address the needs of members of various professional radiologic technology associations, such as the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists, the College of Radiographers in the UK, and the Australian and New Zealand Societies for Radiographers.

Practical Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging is an essential and practical guide to the various diagnostic imaging modalities that are used in veterinary practice. It moves from basic mathematic and physical principles through to discussion of equipment and practical methods. Radiographic techniques for both small and large animals are covered. There is a separate chapter devoted to ultrasound, as well as discussion of advanced imaging techniques such as fluoroscopy, computerised tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. The book also covers legislation and safety issues in the context of their impact on the veterinary practice. Presented with clear line diagrams and photographs, Practical Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging also provides revision points and self-assessment questions in each chapter to aid study. It is an ideal guide for student and qualified veterinary nurses. It is also a useful reference for veterinary students and veterinarians in general practice who want a basic guide to radiography and other imaging modalities. KEY FEATURES Everything you need to know about diagnostic imaging in veterinary practice in a language you can easily understand The basic principles of physics presented in simple terms Improves your positioning techniques with practical tips for best practice Clear guidance on the use of digital imaging to improve image quality and reduce radiation doses to patients Companion website with additional resources (available at www.wiley.com/go/easton/diagnosticimaging)

Endodontic Radiology, 2nd edition, is a unique reference that examines all aspects of radiographic imaging related to endodontics. Dr. Bettina Basrani and a team of prestigious international contributors build upon traditional radiographic techniques and include the latest information available on digital radiographs and cone beam computed tomography. More than an overview of equipment, the book delves into radiographic interpretation, differential diagnosis, technical difficulties and special circumstances when taking radiographs during the endodontic treatment, and how to choose the correct radiographic technique to obtain the desired images. Chapters explain general radiographic techniques; intraoral techniques; standard radiographs and interpretation; digital radiographs and their manipulation, storage, and interpretation; and CBCT principles, techniques, and clinical considerations.

Industrial radiography is a well-established non-destructive testing (NDT) method in which the basic principles were established many years ago. However, during 1993-95 the European Standards Organisa tion (CEN) commenced drafting many new standards on NDT including radiographic methods, and when completed these will replace national standards in all the EC member countries. In some cases these standards vary significantly from those in use in the UK at present. These CEN standards are accepted by majority, not unanimous voting, so they will become mandatory even in countries which vote against them. As most are likely to be legal by the time this second edition is published, they are described in the appropriate places in the text. The most important new technical development is the greater use of computers in radiology. In the first edition, computerized tomography was only briefly mentioned at the end of Chapter 11, as it was then largely a medical method with only a few equipments having found a place in industrial use. The method depends on a complex computer program and a large data store. Industrial equipments are now being built, although their spread into industry has been slow. Computer data storage is also being used for radiographic data. Small computers can now store all the data produced by scanning a radiographic film with a small light-spot, and various programs can be applied to these data.
