During Fiscal Year (FY) 1986 and FY 1987 the Military Services, the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA), the Defense Nuclear Agency (DNA), and the Strategic Defense Initiative Organization (SDIO) selected 260 proposals for funding in Phase II of the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program. These proposals were selected from those submitted by small research and development (R & D) firms awarded Phase I contracts from the FY 1985 solicitation. In order to make information available on the technical content of the Phase II projects supported by the Department of Defense SBIR Program, this report presents the abstracts of those proposals which have resulted in contract awards. Further, the name and address of each firm performing the work is given for those who may desire additional information about the project. Venture capital and large industrial firms that may have an interest in the research described in the abstracts in this publication are encouraged to contact the SBIR firm whose name and address are shown.

This document is a bibliography of abstracts of the DoD-SBIR(Small Business Innovation Research) Program. It stimulates technological innovation in the private sector, strengthening the role of small business in meeting DoD research and development needs, fostering and encouraging participation by minority and disadvantage persons in technological innovation, and increasing the commercial application of DoD supported research or research and development results. This report presents the technical abstracts of the Phase I proposals that resulted in contract awards from the Fiscal Year 1992 Solicitations of the Department of Defense (DoD) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program. The Army, Navy, Air Force, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Defense Nuclear Agency (DNA), and Strategic Defense Initiative Organization (SDIO) are the DoD components of the SBIR program. Two solicitations inviting small business firms to submit proposals under this program were published in FY92. Navy, Air Force, DARPA, DNA, and SDIO participated in Program Solicitation 92.1 (Closing Date: 10 January 1992), and Army, Navy, and DARPA participated in Program Solicitation 92.2 (Closing Date 1 July 92). The selection of proposals for funding was made from proposals received by the Military Services and Agencies.
