Peter Rotz (Ratz) was born ca. 1744 and died ca. 1812. He immigrated to the United States in 1751 coming from Germany, and he settled in Pennsylvania. He married Maria Elizabeth Geckler (Keckler) in 1764 in the Lutheran church in Hanover, Pennsylvania. They were parents of 5 children.

Christopher (VI) deGraffenried was the first of the family to settle permanently in America. He married Barbara Tempest (née Needham) in 1714 at Charleston, South Carolina. They settled permanently in Prince Edward County, Virginia. Christopher died in 1742. Descendants lived in Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Kansas and elsewhere.
