Lady Daisy should be ecstatic when her brother, the earl, allows Mr. John Brent to propose. She’s been plotting their marriage for two years. However, she is surprised to find herself underwhelmed and blames their distant cousin, Reuben, for unsettling her. Reuben Longreach wonders whether the earl understands the first thing about Daisy’s nature and her need for a life with more drama than the Season allows. It’s abundantly clear to him that Daisy and John are not suited, but the minx accepts his proposal nonetheless. Meanwhile, Daisy hatches a plan to attach Reuben to her beautiful, beleaguered Scots cousin, Elspeth. Little does she know that Elspeth is the focus of a more sinister plot that threatens Daisy too. Will Reuben be able to thwart the forces surrounding Daisy before she is irretrievably tied to John? Will Daisy find the maturity to recognise her dilemma may be of her own making before it’s too late?

I would not have survived my struggle with mental illness without my faith and more specifically my relationship with Jesus. He has been the secret weapon I have relied upon to fight this battle and gain the victory. I would have followed my father and brother down their paths of suicide had it not been for my secret weapon. I've tried living with mental illness on my own and it was an ongoing struggle, however, I found peace and joy with the help of Jesus. My hope is that you will feel the same way when you come to the end of this book.

Written by leaders in the field of literacy and language arts Education, this volume defines Dialogic Literary Argumentation, outlines its key principles, and provides in-depth analysis of classroom social practices and teacher-student interactions to illustrate the possibilities of a social perspective for a new vision of teaching, reading and understanding literature. Dialogic Literary Argumentation builds on the idea of arguing to learn to engage teachers and students in using literature to explore what it means to be human situated in the world at a particular time and place. Dialogic Literary Argumentation fosters deep and complex understandings of literature by engaging students in dialogical social practices that foster dialectical spaces, intertextuality, and an unpacking of taken-for-granted assumptions about rationality and personhood. The Language of Diversity is an orchestrated effort of twenty-eight contributing authors, an editor, and three co-editors across the United States and Canada, and the stellar list includes bestselling authors, scholars, academicians, businessmen, theologians, and healthcare providers. Steeped in the Christian worldview, the twenty-five essays are sectioned off into three areas. Section One is comprised of seven essays, which focus on topics that bridge the gap among racial, cultural, and religious differences in an effort to bring about a greater awareness of human diversity and civil charity. The five essays in Section Two examine interfaith relations among Christians, Muslims, and Mormons respectively. The selections provide a serious examination of the tenets of these faiths and pose many challenges among diverse faith-goers. Section Three entails thirteen essays that challenge readers to stretch behind the comforts of their boundaries to probe topics such as education and race; gender and hiring practices in higher education; the Christian church and race relations; implementation of a nursing practicum with a culturally-diverse perspective; a campaign to train credible business leaders in a global culture; etc.

This book is the first collection on the British author Rose Macaulay (1881-1958). The essays establish connections in her work between modernism and the middlebrow, show Macaulay’s attentiveness to reformulating contemporary depictions of gender in her fiction, and explore how her writing transcended and celebrated the characteristics of genre, reflecting Macaulay’s responses to modernity. The book’s focus moves from the interiorized self and the psyche’s relations with the body, to gender identity, to the role of women in society, followed by how women, and Macaulay, use language in their strategies for generic self-expression, and the environment in which Macaulay herself and her characters lived and worked. Macaulay was a particularly modern writer, embracing technology enthusiastically, and the evidence of her treatment of gender and genre reflect Macaulay’s responses to modernism, the historical novel, ruins and the relationships of history and structure, ageing, and the narrative of travel. By presenting a wide range of approaches, this book shows how Macaulay’s fiction is integral to modern British literature, by its aesthetic concerns, its technical experimentation, her concern for the autonomy of the individual, and for the financial and professional independence of the modern woman. There are manifold connections shown between her writing and contemporary theology, popular culture, the newspaper industry, pacifist thinking, feminist rage, the literature of sophistication, the condition of ‘inclusionary’ cosmopolitanism, and a haunted post-war understanding of ruin in life and history. This rich and interdisciplinary combination will set a new agenda for international scholarship on Macaulay’s works, and reformulate contemporary ideas about gender and genre in twentieth-century British literature.
