Herman Cyril McNeile (1888-1937) commonly known as H. C. McNeile or Sapper, was a British soldier and author. Drawing on his experiences in the trenches during the First World War, he started writing short stories and getting them published in the Daily Mail. After the war McNeile left the army and continued writing, although he changed from war stories to thrillers. In 1920 he published Bulldog Drummond, whose eponymous hero became his best-known creation. The character was based on McNeile himself, on his friend Gerard Fairlie and on English gentlemen generally. Drummond is a First World War veteran, brutalised by his experiences in the trenches and bored with his post-war lifestyle. He publishes an advertisement looking for adventure, and soon finds himself embroiled in a series of exploits, many of which involve Carl Peterson—who becomes his nemesis—and Peterson's mistress, the femme fatale Irma. McNeile interspersed his Drummond work with other detective novels and story collections that included two characters who appeared as protagonists in their own works, Jim Maitland and Ronald Standish. H. C. McNeile thrillers are a continuation of his war stories, with upper class Englishmen defending England from foreigners plotting against it._x000D_ This unique and meticulously edited collection includes: Jim Maitland_x000D_ The Island of Terror_x000D_ Bulldog Drummond _x000D_ The Black Gang _x000D_ The Third Round _x000D_ The Final Count _x000D_ The Female of the Species _x000D_ Temple Tower _x000D_ The Return of Bulldog Drummond _x000D_ Knock-Out_x000D_ Bulldog Drummond at Bay_x000D_ Challenge_x000D_ The Horror At Staveley Grange_x000D_ Tiny Carteret_x000D_ Ronald Standish_x000D_ Men, Women and Guns _x000D_ The Saving Clause _x000D_ Out of the Blue_x000D_ The Finger of Fate

Every single day a child suffers from having a mother, father or loved one taken away by the system, a few really take the time to think about what the child is going through and how it will affect them long-term. During these rough times, we need to talk about the programs and support that are available. We should bring awareness to Children, letting them know that crime is something that Society deals with in Clumsy ways. Some innocent loved ones are jailed; others are unjustly punished for their crimes; others are kept incarcerated long after they are rehabilitated. These are real issues that do happen in life, and talking about them will creep positive change, preventing negative views on law enforcement and of the incarcerated loved one. It is so important to explain to the children that anyone can make a mistake, and some mistakes have serious consequences, but that working together to heal those mistakes can make things right. Children need to be taught that a parents mistakes or those of someone they love don't necessarily make them bad. And unfortunately, incarceration can happen to any family anytime.

Now recognized as one of the giants of postwar American fiction, William Gaddis (1922–98) shunned the spotlight during his life, which makes this collection of his letters a revelation. Beginning in 1930 when Gaddis was at boarding-school and ending in September 1998, a few months before his death, these letters function as a kind of autobiography, and are all the more valuable because Gaddis was not an autobiographical writer. Here we see him forging his first novel The Recognitions (1955) while living in Mexico, fighting in a revolution in Costa Rica, and working in Spain, France, and North Africa. Over the next twenty years he struggles to find time to write the National Book Award-winning J R (1975) amid the complications of work and family; deals with divorce and disillusionment before reviving his career with Carpenter's Gothic (1985); then teaches himself enough about the law to indite A Frolic of His Own (1994), which earned him another NBA. Returning to a topic he first wrote about in the 1940s, he finishes his last novel Agape Agape as he lay dying.
