William Cromwell (1626-1684/1685) immigrated from England to Annapolis, Maryland. He was a grandson of Sir Oliver Cromwell, and probably a son of Henry Cromwell (who visited Maryland and Virginia in 1620, and invested in the Virginia Trading Company). Sir Oliver Cromwell was an uncle of Oliver Cromwell, the Lord Protector of England. With immigrant William were two brothers, John and Richard, and one sister, Edith, who married Christopher Gist. Descendants and rela- tives of William lived in Maryland, Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana and elsewhere. Includes two or three generations of ancestors and relatives in England.
