When Legionnaire Peter Crogan loses a friend and comrade to a violent sand storm, he is forced to confront some hard questions. Should he wait out the rapidly approaching end of his five-year term of service with the French Foreign Legion, or should he accept an offer of promotion and devote his life to a campaign whose purpose is an enigma to him? Crogan won't have much time to consider his options as he's besieged by the armies of the infamous Tuaregs, under attack from desert raiders, beat down by the relentless heat, and trapped in a cave with a mysterious and terrible creature who is picking off the people in his party, one-by-one. Luckily, he won't have to go it alone! He's but one man in a rag-tag group of hardened fighters, all under the command of a brutally strict sergeant and a dashing captain who may be too brave for his own good... Return to the adventure-prone exploits of Chris Schweizer's not-so-famous fictional family with this new epic volume in the critically acclaimed CROGAN ADVENTURES series.

Transhumance is a form of pastoralism that has been practised around the world since animals were first domesticated. Such seasonal movements have formed an important aspect of many European farming systems for several thousand years, although they have declined markedly since the nineteenth century. Ethnographers and geographers have long been involved in recording transhumant practices, and in the last two decades archaeologists have started to add a new material dimension to the subject. This volume brings together recent advances in the study of European transhumance during historical times, from Sweden to Spain, Romania to Ireland, and beyond that even Newfoundland. While the focus is on the archaeology of seasonal sites used by shepherds and cowherds, the contributions exhibit a high degree of interdisciplinarity. Documentary, cartographic, ethnographic and palaeoecological evidence all play a part in the examination of seasonal movement and settlement in medieval and post-medieval landscapes. Notwithstanding the obvious diversity across Europe in terms of livestock, distances travelled and socio-economic context, an extended introduction to the volume shows that cross-cutting themes are now emerging, including mobility, gendered herding, collective land-use, the agency of non-elite people and competition for grazing and markets. The book will appeal not only to archaeologists, but to historians, geographers, ethnographers, palaeoecologists and anyone interested in rural lifeways across Europe.

In Pumpkins County, weird things happen every day, but nobody ever makes a fuss. Nobody, that is, except the Creeps: Carol, a big-city girl new to Pumpkins County, who finds kindred spirits in Mitchell (monster expert), Jarvis (military brat with logistics know-how), and Rosario (girly girl on the outside, muscle underneath). The Creeps are on the case to figure out the spooky mysteries and still get to class on time. Last week it was a pudding monster. This week, it's killer frogs--reanimated from the team's biology class dissection experiment. Who's behind the Frankenfrog attacks? The Creeps will track down the answers! In this new creepy graphic novel series, Chris Schweizer's art is full of the visual excitement that only the best graphic novel creators can pull off.

This great value paperback collection brings together three classic stories about the much loved bumbling pirate told in comic book format. In the style of Tintin and Asterix, these stories will delight all Captain Pugwash fans as well as make a fantastic introduction to the cowardly captain, his greedy crew, their deadly rival Cut-throat Jake and the clever cabin boy Tom. In The Secret of the San Fiasco, Pugwash takes his crew on holiday to the wild west coast of Scotland. But in reality he is searching for the wreck of a ship from the Spanish Armada said to be laden with treasure. But Cut-throat Jake is not far behind and lifts the treasure from under the Captain's nose. The Battle of Bunkum Bay sees Pugwash taking on the might of both English and French navies and becoming embroiled in a major battle, all for more treasure. And in The Quest of the Golden Handshake Pugwash and crew snatch a genuine treasure map from under the nose of Cut-throat Jake and set sail for The Land of the Stinkas. Little do they know they have stowaways hiding on board, but cabin-boy Tom knows how to deal with them.
